Primary objective
Provide assistance and advice to the Sentence Management unit, including the preparation, development and review of individual
Sentence Management Plans and institutional parole reports, including motivational interviewing and goal development with prisoners,
advising on appropriate reintegration strategies and participating in meetings and reviews.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist in the development of individual Sentence Management Plans for prisoners.
2. Coordinate and conduct initial Sentence Management Plans with prisoners and be responsible for reviewing these and
allocating/managing workload of Sentence Management Officers.
3. Provide leadership, direction, advice, support, and training to Sentence Management Officers.
4. Consult and provide advice to the Sentence Management Team on Sentence Management Plans for prisoners and sentence
management activities and strategies.
5. Gather information from a range of sources and coordinate the information to produce institutional parole reports.
6. Ensure the Sentence Management systems within the centre comply with agency policies and procedures and relevant legislations
and participate in the development and implementation of initiatives relating to offender management.
7. Provide assessments and reports as required, and maintain accurate, legible, and proficient case notes and statistics.
8. Be an active member of a multi-disciplinary team and participate in the ongoing development and implementation of sentence
management policies and procedures and the Integrated Offender Management System.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in identifying the criminogenic needs of offenders, the development of associated offender management
plans and knowledge of the principles of case management and motivational interviewing.
2. Extensive knowledge of contemporary correctional practices and procedures.
3. Knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting Indigenous people in contemporary Australian society and the ability and
commitment to work within a cross cultural environment effecting change.
4. Demonstrated high standard of written and oral communication skills, including strong proof-reading skills and attention to detail.
5. Experience in the use of word processing, electronic media, and software package applications.
6. Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team within a high-volume work environment managing confidential and sensitive
information, manage time effectively, prioritise workloads and approach issues in an innovative way.
7. Interpersonal skills of a high order especially the ability to communicate effectively and interact with clients at all levels including
Indigenous Australians as well as other culturally diverse groups.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioural Sciences, or associated field.
2. Knowledge and experience of correctional operations.
