Description:

YOUR NEW JOB

As a technical application manager, you are co-responsible for the management of several dozen (mainly web-based) applications and services. You are looking for the optimal balance between stability, safety and availability when carrying out maintenance, solving malfunctions and implementing improvements. Using agile methodologies, you will work together in a team of five specialists with whom you will share knowledge and together look for the best solution for our users’ applications and automate, standardize and simplify the deployment and management of applications.

Our applications run on both Windows and Linux. Many applications run in our own data centers, but you also support deploying applications in our Azure cloud and the connections between them. We are also moving more and more applications to a container on our own Kubernetes cluster for more flexibility and less management effort. We do this through pipelines and automating deployments. You recognize repetitive activities and devise and implement solutions to automate them and have them carried out by less experienced users. You use resources from the market or, where necessary, design your own solutions to automate them. What we expect from you:

  • Giving advice to users on the most effective platform to land their applications.
  • Troubleshooting supported applications.
  • After a successful Proof Of Concept for new users and new applications, setting up the production environment to be able to manage it.
  • Keeping existing applications stable and monitoring and resolving incidents and disruptions.
  • Implementing upgrades and patches.
  • Monitoring the environment and improving the tooling for it.
  • Automating recurring management activities.

For automation, we use version control, pipelines and scripting. Being able to read, write and use pipelines and scripts well is essential. As a team, we are also devising, designing and implementing innovation and standardization in our environments to make them more stable, safer and more effective. Of course, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself and keep up with market developments by attending training courses and conferences.
Our applications are used intensively at WUR. For example, they are used by our Researchers to conduct groundbreaking research, so that you can also make an important contribution to our mission: “to explore the potential of nature to improve the quality of life”. The reason why you want to work with us
Together with the entire team, we ensure a stable application hosting environment, so that our colleagues in education and research can deliver the best quality to our students and customers. You will be part of a team of five colleagues who are jointly responsible for our application hosting and deployment.
