Description:

DESIGNING QUALITY TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROJECTS AND MAKE IMPACTFUL GRANTS

  • Along with other Investment Department colleagues, leads project and grants origination, administration and monitoring with FMO’s client base;
  • Acts as a sounding board with other colleagues, and with Investees themselves, around impactful project design;
  • Plans and monitors project expenditure against budgets and forecasts, backstopping and quality assurance;
  • Plans and oversees the operational and administrative aspects of start-up, execution, closure;
  • Develops and draft of project scopes of work / terms of reference, consultant identification, supporting the procurement process where relevant, and contracting, in compliance with funding partner (donor) requirements;
  • Oversees - and in coordination with relevant internal departments - project monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL);
  • Helps resolve project and TA portfolio issues, escalates to Manager as appropriate.

SKILLS

  • Ability to effectively strike the balance between facilitating transactions and upholding Technical Assistance / Grant criteria;
  • Demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changing priorities, tasks, and schedules in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Experience in working with FMO’s focus sectors and on FMO’s strategic impact themes is a pre.
  • Skills in managing complex projects or programmes, and in high-risk environments;
  • Ability to proactively build and leverage relationships with clients, strategic partners and donors;
  • Ability to accurately read and navigate sensitive situations;
  • Displays a strong service and client orientation;
  • Ability to generate original solutions and new ideas with an entrepreneurial focus;
  • Strong skills in project administration, planning, organizing and prioritizing when working on several assignments at the same time/ under pressure;
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Additional languages an advantage;

Responsibilities:

The Technical Assistance (TA) team deploys grants funding to support our clients with high quality external advisory services. This is to help them strengthen organizational or project-related capabilities and provide them with access to knowledge and networks. The TA Officer ensures that advisory projects are originated, designed, administered, and monitored in a way that is consistent with FMO’s mission and vision. They provide subject matter expertise and contributes to corporate priorities as well as collaborating across FMO, with the Impact department colleagues, and FMO Investment teams. This role may involve servicing different sectors and type of customer (debt, private equity) with TA and thereby providing capacity where needed. Experience in working with FMO’s focus sectors and on FMO’s strategic impact themes is a pre. Additionally, the role will also involve working on internal change and professionalization initiatives.
Individuals with a strong passion for international impact investing and/or international development and with an entrepreneurial spirit will thrive in this role.
