IQGeo is seeking a Technical Author Manager to support our Web and Mobile Software Engineering efforts for domestic and international

Our Engineering teams are in Cambridge (UK), Denver (USA), Salt Lake City (USA), and Ghent (Belgium) and are responsible for designing and developing our geospatial products which are available both as cloud services and for on-premises deployment. You will be helping to develop the next generation of innovative geospatial products that support mission-critical operations for our global customer base.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Essential

You must have all of the following:

  • Experience managing and guiding a team of technical authors.
  • Significant experience building and maintaining product documentation including User Guides, Installation Guides, Developer Guides, and Release Notes.
  • Significant experience creating technical documentation using MadCap Flare or similar tool.
  • Significant experience validating product documentation against the related product.
  • Significant experience analyzing and redesigning documentation for improved usability.
  • An eye for verbal consistency and an appreciation of tone and style.
  • Knowledge of handling documentation as “code” (to be able to implement content reuse and future-proofing techniques.)
  • Single sourcing to produce different variants of documentation from the same source.
  • An understanding of responsive layouts and ability to apply techniques to display content on different types of devices.
  • Quality proofreading skills and attention to detail.
  • Writing for a global audience.
  • Writing for translation and localization.
  • Creating visuals to explain concepts and processes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to present technical concepts to engineering stakeholders.
  • Experience using Git or other distributed version control systems.
  • Experience using industry-standard style guides like Microsoft or Chicago Manuals of Style.
  • UK citizenship or permanent residency required.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.

Desirable

  • Ideally, you’ll have some of the following:
  • Experience producing API documentation.
  • Experience producing documentation for mobile applications.
  • Experience working with Manula (manual creation software).
  • Experience with Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) or web mapping.
  • Experience within the telecommunications and/or utilities industries.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in English, Writing, or Communication from an accredited university or a related field; or equivalent industry experience.

Responsibilities:

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

As an integral part of the Geospatial engineering team, the successful candidate will manage a team of technical authors while also helping

author user guides, release notes, and other technical documents to support new product releases that meet the growing list of requirements for the platform product and new industry vertical applications. Your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Manage and lead a small team of technical authors.
  • Own the development and maintenance of all product documentation.
  • Guide and contribute to planning, scoping, and managing documentation projects.
  • Write User Guides, Installation Guides, and Developer Guides.
  • Validate documentation against the user interface.
  • Analyze and redesign documentation for improved usability.
  • Create HTML help systems through MadCap Flare.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage and supervise direct reports.

Provide ongoing performance feedback.
