JOB DESCRIPTION

A newly created role of Technical Bid Support Engineer is required for our Power Cable Design Product Team.
Reporting into the Design Technical Lead - Cables you will provide detailed engineering design and technical support to the tendering teams associated with cable design at tendering stage to meet the customer requirements in the Renewable Energy and Oil & Gas markets.

Main responsibilities of the role:

  • Review initial client RFQ / ITT documentation and detailed specifications for power cable tenders to identify any discrepancies, clarification requirements, deviation requirements and risks.
  • Create conceptual and detailed power cable designs for tenders and new projects producing economic engineered solutions considering all aspects from materials to manufacturability, whilst satisfying all customer and internal requirements taking responsibility for generating technical documentation (reports, technical notes, purchase specifications, calculations and drawings), completing client datasheets, reviewing and responding to client clarifications and checking documentation produced by others.
  • Ensure full compliance in all activities with regard to sound engineering practice and adherence to relevant internal and external procedures, guidelines and standards.
  • Review supplier technical documentation received in response to RFQs and purchase specifications to confirm compliance with client requirements, internal requirements and international standards, liaising with suppliers where necessary to resolve technical issues to support Tendering, Cost Estimating and Procurement.
  • Attend client meetings as required (often at short notice) to provide power cable related technical support to Sales, Tendering and Projects.
  • Take a proactive role in the handover of new projects from Tendering to the wider business.
  • Assist in the maintenance of standard document templates to ensure that all content changes are captured for future tenders / projects.
  • Assist in the maintenance of internal design manuals to ensure that changes to design rules / guidelines are captured and communicated to the wider business in a timely manner to support development / continuous improvement of existing product range.
  • Provide support to the project-based Design Engineers for power cable related queries and take on the role of technical specialist.
  • Provide technical support for power cable related manufacture and test issues as required including review of complex DCR’s and NCR’s.
  • Support and develop the wider design team to improve cross functionality of skills.
  • Ensure knowledge of industry developments is kept up to date.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Either holding a technical qualification (HND or Degree) or having significant time served in a technical role, you will also have focus for attention to detail, a desire to follow rules and procedures, and be driven to meet tight tendering deadlines, whilst maintaining accuracy. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, providing credibility to customers and other stakeholders across the business. Proficient in either Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering theory, this is a great opportunity to work in the Renewable Energy and Oil & Gas industries, and broaden your knowledge in this exciting area. The cables supplied by JDR are specialist, designed to order products, in an emerging industry, and therefore full training will be provided.
