We are seeking an internal or external applicant who is passionate about wind engineering to join us as a Technical Director - Snow & Ice in our Guelph office.
We are accepting applications from candidates with the following qualifications:
- 5 – 15 years of experience working in snow loading/drifting or falling ice/snow.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s level Engineering degree.
- Licensed Professional Engineer
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of wind engineering concepts, bluff body aerodynamics, and/or structural dynamics.
- Knowledge of the design of structures, and/or knowledge and application of wind and snow sections of building codes (i.e., NBCC, ASCE-7).
- Experience with Rhino, AutoCAD or similar environments.
- Experience with Excel/VBA automation and scientific computing using scripting language such as Python preferred.
- Strong communication skills.
- An aptitude for practical self-directed problem solving and proven ability to successfully meet deadlines

Responsibilities:
- Consulting with structural engineers, architects, and developers to help them achieve safe, practical solutions to challenging and complex problems related snow loading/drifting and falling ice & snow.
- Providing leadership, supervision, and mentorship to junior staff.
- Coordinating and overseeing physical simulations of snow loads in RWDI’s water-tunnels.
- Interpreting and analyzing wind tunnel or water tunnel data to generate clear and concise recommendations related to snow loading on the structure.
- Undertaking desk-based assessments based on the interpretation of codes, technical literature, and experience (often database-assisted) to provide clients with timely guidance.
- Partner with sales to develop and review scopes of work prior to commencement of a project.
- Participate in Business Development activities.
- Execute and oversee technical development initiatives collaborating with stakeholders.
- Provide expert testimony at hearings.
