Technical Expert, Marine Control Systems
Technical Services is a globally recognised technical knowledge centre within Wärtsilä. Our primary mission is to offer comprehensive technical support to both internal and external stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of Wärtsilä’s products and solutions. We are committed to maintaining, developing, and ensuring the availability of technical knowledge and expertise efficiently.
A key part of our activities involves programming and engineering of new solutions for discontinued components and contributing to the development of new products by sharing our expertise and providing technical support throughout the product lifecycle. Additionally, we analyse field experience and feedback, transforming this information into actionable insights to improve our products and ensure customer satisfaction.
We are now seeking a Technical Expert to join our Propulsion Control Systems team in Rubbestadneset, Norway. We welcome applicants with varying levels of experience, as this role can be offered as either Technical Expert or Senior Technical Expert.

Responsibilities:

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE ROLE INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Programming and engineering of new solutions for discontinued components.
  • Supporting other Services departments by providing technical advice, failure analysis, condition analysis.
  • Participating in development processes for Propulsion Control Systems, supporting with product improvements and new product releases by sharing field experiences and feedback.
  • Performing and participating in field testing, site surveys, and failure investigations after product breakdowns or failures.
  • Actively engaging in own competence development and acquiring know-how within own expertise area.
  • Ensuring that all components and technologies remain up-to-date and functional, including anticipating and addressing issues related to outdated or unavailable parts and technologies to maintain the effectiveness of our services.
  • Updating Product Data when modifications are made to existing installations.

THE FOLLOWING WILL ENABLE YOU TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE:

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical & Automation Engineering or Mechatronics & Automation Engineering, as the role can be adapted to suit your expertise. Relevant qualifications gained through work experience will also be taken into consideration.
  • Genuine interest to learn and expand your knowledge about Propulsion Controls Systems (PCS).
  • Product knowledge within our field to help enhance the PCS team’s competence and capacity.
  • Good programming skills in PLC or similar programmable controllers.
  • Experience with analysis and reporting.
  • Structured, analytical, and proactive approach to work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a service-oriented mindset to help provide the best possible service experience to our customers.
  • Flexible attitude and ability to work both independently and collaboratively with your team and other stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in both spoken and written English and Norwegian.
