We are recruiting for a Technical Manager to join Tarmac on the large infrastructure project. You will work on this project to ensure effective quality control is maintained in accordance with Health & Safety and technical specification requirements ensuring this project comes in on time and within budget from a technical perspective. This role is working in Cambridgeshire at the client’s office at Wintringham.

Responsibilities:

ROLE RESPONSIBILITY

The Technical Manager will be experienced in all aspects of Asphalt, Concrete, Surfacing and Pave technology and drive the team to deliver this highly strategic ongoing project that is fundamental for operational and business growth. To ensure effective liaison and team working with the wider business and the main contractor. To minimise complaint costs and establish S&OP’s in conjunction with cross-function managers. The Technical Manager will have the responsibility for ensuring sampling and testing requirements are fully met and that the site is operated safely and efficiently. This role shall include a ‘hands-on’ approach to assist where required. The role will be responsible for all reporting both internally and externally for QA, financial aspects. You will manage all technicians on the contract from conception through to delivery, you will have the ability to problem solve, innovate, and drive technical performance to the highest levels.

As the Technical Manager must be well-versed in all technical surfacing construction methodologies and procedures and be able to coordinate a team of professionals of differing skill levels to achieve the best results. The ideal candidate will have an analytical mind and great organisational skills. Your responsibilities will include (not exhaustive):

  • Have a proven track record of working in a successful technical Project / Programme delivery team, providing extensive knowledge of asphalt, concrete, pave and surfacing technology within multi-million-pound projects.
  • Responsible for delivering the technological aspect of the project ‘road map’ and able to foresee issues and apply proactive problem-solving techniques to overcome challenges, to remain on track to achieve key milestones / dates.
  • Manage and drive all testing processes in accordance with required standards and accreditations – UKAS, 3rd Party Testhouses etc.
  • Provide management, guidance and direction to the wider Project Delivery Team from a surfacing technology aspect and support all to ensure that all objectives, aims and targets are achieved – management / maintenance of trial mixes, BOMs and SAP materials etc.
  • Be part of a team to ensure that the business are fully compliant with all H&S, business policies, legal delivery requirements and procedures at all times for both our colleagues and contractors.
  • Communication is key with colleagues, managers and contractors across the whole project to ensure all tasks are performed promptly, you must have the tact and diplomacy when dealing with tense situations that can arise at any moment during the project’s life cycle.
  • Where technological issues arise, support the internal and external clients to recover these costs from within the project.

You will hold a FULL UK manual car driving license with no more than 6 penalty points
