Nutrition International promotes an evidence-based approach to advocacy, decision making, multi-sectoral country planning, and the setting of nutrition agendas. The Global Technical Services (GTS) Unit is Nutrition International’s Centre of Technical Excellence. The GTS Unit, based in Ottawa, leads on the quality assurance of and technical support to Nutrition International’s research and programs to influence and improve national and global policies and practice. Currently, Nutrition International is seeking applications for a Technical Officer, Maternal and Neonatal Health and Nutrition (MNHN) be based in Ottawa, Canada. This role is open to applicants throughout Canada and remote work may be considered.

Responsibilities:

Work closely with the IGNIT3 Project team and provide technical coordination, inputs, and/or support the quality assurance of program and research planning, implementation, monitoring, assessment, and reporting based on agreed upon workplan. Specifically:

  • Provide technical assistance to maintain and strengthen the NI-led activities.
  • Analyze and interpret findings from the routine monitoring, and research to support evidence-based program design decisions and rollout.
  • Coordinate and monitor provision of technical advice to project staff in support of the implementation of NI-led work as per IGNIT3 annual work plans and budget.
  • Provide support to the IGNIT3 Project team to quality assure their project management activities by supporting the Project team to identify and select consultants, define scope of work, review Terms of Reference, and review and quality assure consultant reports and deliverables.
  • Support the design, implementation, analysis, interpretation, and knowledge exchange of results from any research studies under IGNIT3 in conjunction with the relevant members of the technical teams in HQ and Regional Offices.
  • Work closely with the project team to analyze activities, findings, and results, and help synthesize and review donor reports and other key project documents.
  • Contribute, as delegated, to knowledge translation documents such as policy briefs, summary briefs, blogs, and case studies on topics that include, but are not limited to, formative research, behavior change intervention strategies, supply chain management, health management information systems, nutrition policies, gender equality and gender equity issues related to health in nutrition.
  • Contribute, as delegated, to peer-reviewed publications and/or other documentation to disseminate lessons learned and key findings arising from IGNIT3 including all research activities.
  • Coordinate the quality assurance/technical review of all knowledge products produced by the IGNIT3 Project among relevant members of GTS.

International travel to Pakistan, Tanzania, and other countries may be required to provide technical support services. Duty travel is typically for 1-3 weeks and usually for not more than 40 days per year.
