Applications are invited for the part time position of Technical Sales Manager within the Walker Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre (WAMIC) at Niagara College located at the Welland campus. The starting salary range is $41.77/hr - $45.25/hr for a 24 hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary. Additional hours may be required as necessary.
Reporting to the Associate Director, WAMIC, the Technical Sales Manager is responsible for managing sales of WAMIC’s services and making certain that clients are satisfied with project outcomes and service standards. The incumbent will also be responsible for delivering relevant sales targets, and monitoring and reporting on sales activity to WAMIC leadership. The Technical Sales Manager will identify opportunities for new service offerings and support business development activities for WAMIC’s applied research offerings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three (3) year Diploma or Degree in Business or Engineering
  • Three (3) years demonstrated experience and success selling solutions associated with one or more of the following: mechanical design; product development; automation, productivity improvement, manufacturing operations management, or digital transformation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the manufacturing sector in the Niagara Region and beyond.
  • Proven ability to understand client challenges and identify appropriate technology solutions to meet desired client outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Presenting, demonstrating, and promoting WAMIC’s products/services to existing and prospective customers at client sites and tradeshows/events.
  • Establishing, developing and maintaining positive business and customer relationships
  • Reaching out to customer leads through cold calling/emailing
  • Achieving agreed upon sales targets and outcomes within schedule
  • Coordinating sales efforts with WAMIC technical staff, R&I Business Development team, and Research Network partners
  • Analysing the market’s potential, tracking sales and writing status reports.
  • Supplying WAMIC leadership with reports on customer needs, problems, interests, competitive activities, and potential for new products and services.
  • Keeping abreast of best practices and promotional trends.
  • Expediting the resolution of customer concerns and complaints to maximize satisfaction.
  • Negotiating contracts and closing agreements to meet financial targets.
  • Developing trusted advisor relationships with key accounts, customer stakeholders and executive sponsors.
  • Developing new business with existing clients and/or identifying areas of improvement to meet sales quotas.
  • Forecasting, tracking and reporting on account metrics.
  • Acquiring a thorough understanding of key customer needs and requirements.
  • Scheduling and leading WAMIC lab tours with associations, politicians etc.
  • Referring leads and connecting companies with other areas of the college e.g. coop, workforce development and academics.
