Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Work under the direction and control of the Engineering Officer or Designated Officer. Meet regularly with Engineering Officer to plan daily/weekly objectives and planned preventative maintenance programme, to report progress on work and to ensure that issues/queries are addressed on an ongoing basis.
  • Supervise staff assigned and assist in the planning, supervising and control of work programmes; including the supervising of the time keeping, attendance, productivity, and the quality of work and competency of staff under their control (including contractors). Identify and address areas of under-performance with directly employed, contracted staff, or contractors and service providers.
  • Familiarise themselves with new technology and be prepared to participate and co-operate in such training courses considered appropriate by the MUH and assist the Engineering Officer or Designated Officer with the implementation of such technologies.
  • Give full co-operation with future ongoing developments at MUH and with changes in work practices as a result of new technologies, standards or operating procedures.
  • Assist the Engineering Officer or Designated Officer in the preparation of a comprehensive strategic plan for the proper maintenance of all plant and equipment and provide ongoing progress reports.
  • Use the maintenance management system(s) and other computerised systems in order to provide, maintain and validate records as required.
  • Demonstrate evidence of computer skills including the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, e-mail, CMMS and the internet, as relevant to the role.
  • Manage the allocation of both Reactive and Planned Preventative Maintenance works and ensure that the computerised work request system remains up to date with regard to maintenance tasks.
  • Assign work to staff and contractors as required. Follow up on all outstanding and pending work requests.
  • Assist the Engineering Officer or Designated Officer in identifying areas of potential development and growth for the Technical Services Department in relation to identifying works which are currently outsourced, and which could be carried out in-house to provide a more comprehensive maintenance service to MUH.
  • Ensure staff and contractors are carrying out work tasks in a safe manner, consistent with Technical Services Department Safe Systems of Work and in line with statutory regulations.
  • Identify and discuss with the Engineering Officer or Designated Officer areas where Safe Systems of Work need to be enhanced and/or developed.
  • Ensure the implementation of Safe Systems of Works developed by MUH, both by directly employed operatives and contractors (such as issuing permits, checking and approving risk assessments and method statements etc.)
  • Maintain good lines of communication with the Engineering Officer or Designated Officer. This will include the presentation of daily reports on works outstanding, pending and completed, call outs, emergency repairs, failures in communications, incidents and adverse events.
  • Assist the Engineering Officer or Designated Officer in identifying staff training needs.
  • Assist in the collection and compiling of information to support the Engineering Officer or Designated Officer.
  • Maintain an up-to-date Asset Register of plant and equipment under the remit of the Technical Services department.
  • Participate in on call rota system, work overtime as required to support the planned and unplanned works of the Technical Services Department.
  • Ensure all Fire Detection equipment is maintained accordingly and that we adhere to relevant statutory requirements in relation to Fire Safety.
  • Be familiar and comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety act, 2005 and ensure that their staff work in a safe manner.
  • Supervise the efficient operation and effective maintenance of all mechanical, electrical and building maintenance in MUH.
  • Co-ordinate and liaise with all staff and contractors engaged in the maintenance, repair and alteration of services at MUH.
  • Assist the Engineering Officer or Designated Officer in the setting up and managing of planned maintenance programmes/contracts and preventative maintenance programmes/contracts, highlighting areas which are outstanding or in need corrective attention.
  • Plan and supervise existing or proposed rota arrangements with Engineering Officer or Designated Officer including on-call rota, generator test schedule and staff rota, out of hours PPM works, and contractor support works.
  • Assist in various programmes on energy conservation and sustainability.
  • Assist the Engineering Officer or Designated Officer with the development and implementation of estates emergency and contingency planning.
  • Provide management support to the Engineering Officer or Designated Officer on both minor and contracted works (including the costing, co-ordination and snagging of works on these projects).
  • Supervise the stock spare parts and order as necessary to maintain stock levels, including managing and maintaining the Technical Services emergency store.
  • Deputise as required for the Engineering Officer.
  • Carry out such duties as may be assigned to them from time to time by the Engineering Officer or Designated Officer.
  • Demonstrate an ability to continually improve and monitor energy consumption in relation to Energy Conservation and Sustainability practices. Ensure compliance with requirements of MUH as a Public Body and obligations thereof.
