SUMMARY

Reporting to the General Manager the purpose of this role is to provide site-based technical and project management support to the mine operations in the areas of mine services, mine infrastructure, and other miscellaneous projects as required.

ABOUT US

The Keno Hill mine, located within the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada’s Yukon Territory. Keno Hill, is one of the highest-grade silver districts in the world, is situated 350 kilometres north of Whitehorse, and lies within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun. It comprises 242 square kilometres (km2) with numerous mineral deposits and more than 35 historical past-producing mine sites. Keno Hill is expected to produce 2.7-3.0 million ounces of silver in 2024 as the mine ramps up production.
The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in mining, geology, or related engineering field.
  • 10 years of experience supporting or managing projects in operating underground mines and/or projects under development/expansion.
  • 5 years supervisory/management experience.
  • Capable of obtaining Professional Engineer designation in Yukon Territory preferred.
  • Strong background in mine services, design, scheduling, QA/QC, and contractor management.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management is required.
  • Previous working experience with narrow vein mining method preferred.
  • Experience with Northern Canadian mining projects/operations preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) to operational and technical levels.
  • Business improvement project experience is necessary, in a mining environment is preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Responsibilities:

HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT IN THIS ROLE:

  • Oversee, coordinate and address engineering and geology activities including annual budgets, reserves, planning, surface, and underground infrastructure, mine ventilation and geotechnical issues.
  • Maintain qualifications for a qualified persons for 43-101 reporting purposes within the organization.
  • Provide input into Strategic planning, Life of Mine, Resource & Reserve, and Budget planning cycles to support the achievement of strategic objectives and ensure that mining related issues are considered and communicated to appropriate parties.
  • Ensure the Technical Services department provides support to mining operations in areas of delivering the Business plan, Short, Medium-& Long-Term planning, Geotechnical, Survey, and Infrastructure projects as required.
  • Maintain effective communication with stakeholders, including senior management, mine operations, technical services, contractors, and vendors.
  • Engage with and support external consultants, as and when required, for activities or studies such as (but not limited to) risk minimization and growth strategies.
  • Oversee and implement mine planning and mine design operations to maximize production efficiency and resources. Provide guidance to operating departments to maximize production, plan their activities and accurately measure key mining parameters.
  • Oversee the production of mine designs and plans.
  • Act as the expert within the site on production geology and engineering processes and practices.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
