POSITION SUMMARY |
Aspen Properties, a leading owner and manager of commercial office buildings, is seeking a highly skilled Technical Services Specialist to manage, optimize, and future-proof our portfolio’s technology infrastructure. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the seamless integration of our buildings’ operational technologies, IT systems, IoT devices, and building automation systems (BAS). This role is critical in driving the connectivity, performance, and intelligence of Aspen’s properties to meet current and future business and tenant demands.
Regular work hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. The Technical Services Specialist will report directly to the Manager, IT & Technical Services.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Assist the IT Team with special projects including but not limited to network expansions, system integrations and technology upgrades.
- Act as a point of escalation for the IT Team for support in network challenges and other challenges if applicable.
- Occasional on-call availability for after-hours support
QUALIFICATIONS |
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Preferred certifications: Network+, CCNA, or similar.
- Experience with cybersecurity tools and protocols; familiarity with Juniper, Fortinet, and Cisco hardware a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of IT infrastructure experience, ideally in commercial real estate or smart building environments.
- Experience with BAS platforms (Delta Controls, Honeywell), security systems (CCTV), and IoT devices is an asset.
- Strong understanding of networking, including fiber optics, WiFi, and AV system management.
- Experience with AI/ML and data analytics in facilities management.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and routing protocols.
- Proficiency in firewall management, security protocols, and vulnerability assessment.
- Familiarity with Windows Server, Active Directory, and cloud services (AWS, Azure) preferred.
- Successful completion of a City of Calgary Police Information/Criminal Record Check and Educational Verification.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, manage, and troubleshoot LAN, WAN, VPN, and Wi-Fi networks across Aspen’s portfolio.
- Collaborate with ISPs and telcos to maintain and upgrade internal infrastructure.
- Ensure optimal WiFi coverage in all common areas, conference rooms, and tenant amenities.
- Monitor network performance and proactively address connectivity issues.
- Create and maintain current network documentation.
- Implement and maintain existing firewalls within the portfolio, keeping current with best practices for network security.
- Connectivity: Work closely with the property management team to provision and maintain connectivity needs for all commercial building-related technology (e.g. automation systems, IoT devices, CCTV and other IPV4 based devices).
- Audio-Visual and Conference Technology: Support conference and AV technology, ensuring systems are user-friendly and reliable for tenants with the latest technology solutions.
- AI/ML Integration: Collaborate with third-party vendors to integrate AI and machine learning capabilities into the BAS for smarter, more adaptive building management (e.g., optimizing HVAC operations based on occupancy patterns).
- Energy Efficiency and Monitoring: Assist in implementing and maintaining energy efficiency solutions across properties, using IoT and AI-driven data to track, optimize, and predict energy usage.
- Data Management: Collaborate with the Manager, IT & Technical Services to ensure that all building and IoT data is properly captured, stored, and analyzed for operational insights.
- Technology Roadmap: Assist the Manager, IT & Technical Services in the development and implementation of a technology roadmap for each building, ensuring that infrastructure is scalable and able to accommodate emerging technologies (e.g., 5G, advanced IoT applications, AI-driven smart buildings).
- Tenant Experience: Work closely with Property Managers to align IT infrastructure with tenant expectations, particularly for high-tech clients requiring advanced network capabilities and smart building services.
