EDUCATION:
Bachelor of Science or Engineering in physics, mechanical, electrical or nuclear, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, knowledge, and experience.
Language Requirements: English essential
EXPERIENCE:
- Assessing the physical design of systems and components to meet and maintain their design basis at a nuclear facility, at another critical energy infrastructure environment, or at a regulatory authority
- Evaluating equipment fitness for service at a nuclear facility, at another critical energy infrastructure environment, or at a regulatory authority
- Leading or participating in technical inspections related to physical design of systems and components or fitness for service at a nuclear facility, at another critical energy infrastructure environment, or at a regulatory authority
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Design and operation of the process systems at nuclear power plants (the service water system, emergency coolant injection system, boiler feed water system, heat transport system, moderator system, etc.)
- Nuclear power plant mechanical equipment (nuclear and balance of plant pumps, valves, chillers, air conditioner units, compressors, etc.)
- Risk and safety assessments for engineering changes to process systems and mechanical equipment at nuclear facilities
- Codes and standards that are applicable to nuclear power plant process systems and mechanical equipment
- Nuclear power plant documentation (flow sheets, safety reports, design manuals, flow diagrams, operating policies & principles, abnormal incident manuals, operating procedures)
- Hydraulic calculations for process systems and mechanical equipment
- Typical turbine generators used in nuclear power plants and the components of typical turbine generators
- The safety significance of the major process systems and mechanical equipment in nuclear facilities
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in the maintenance, engineering, or operations department at a nuclear power plant or a related industry
- Experience leading technical inspections
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and projects, and reviewing and integrating multi-disciplinary findings
- Experience representing an organization as a technical expert on standards committees, and at national and international technical/scientific meetings and organizations
- Experience reviewing and inspecting the mechanical components of electrical power systems
- Experience in design engineering or in the review of engineering designs for process systems in nuclear facilities
Responsibilities:
The Systems Engineering Division is seeking a passionate specialist to join their team. If your expertise is in the area of process systems and mechanical engineering, then we are looking for you!
Reporting to the Systems Engineering Division Director, specialists provide the following technical services in support of the CNSC’s Operations:
- Regulatory oversight of the safety performance of process systems and mechanical equipment at nuclear facilities
- Review and assess submissions from nuclear facilities for compliance with process system and mechanical engineering related regulatory requirements
- Assist and perform system inspections and other related technical inspections as a subject matter expert or lead subject matter expert
- Review licensees events from a process and mechanical perspective
- Prepare reports, guides, procedures, and other documents that contribute to the development of regulatory documents and standards
- Participate in or lead various projects related to the mandate of the Systems Engineering Division
- Attend and participate in national and international technical and scientific meetings and organizations
- Support pre-licensing vendor design reviews, reviews of the construction and operation licence applications for new nuclear facilities, and assess the design of systems and components for new nuclear reactors facilities
- Support the CNSC’s Emergency Response Team from headquarters as an Integrated System Specialist
