STATUS: Permanent, Full-time
LOCATION: Peterborough, ON

SALARY RANGE: $22-$26 (commensurate with experience)
ASSETS AND EXPERIENCE – BUILDING SCIENCES
- Conducts building assessments for identification of designated substances and hazardous materials (e.g., asbestos, lead, mercury, silica, mould, PCBs) per Section 30 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and O. Reg. 278/05.
- Carries out inspection and testing during abatement/remediation projects to ensure adherence to applicable regulations and/or guidelines.
- Prepares, calibrates, and maintains sampling equipment.
- Collects and maintains detailed field notes, observations, and photos.
- Liaises with and monitors contractors on behalf of clients.
- Completes data entry and assists with data interpretation.
- Writes reports or portions of reports.
- Provides regular project updates and refers any complex or unusual matters to the project lead.
- Works independently and with limited supervision.
- Responsible for personal health and safety and that of any person working on an assignment directly under their supervision.
- As required, takes courses, attends training seminars, etc. to maintain an “up-to-date” standard of knowledge.
- Shiftwork, travel and overtime may be required.
- Civil or Geotechnical Technician or Technologist Diploma, or similar (Minimum requirement is a college diploma and related experience).
- Experience in Construction, Occupational Health & Safety, Building Sciences, or other related fields (including work experience during post-secondary education, e.g., co-op, student intern, etc.).
- Attention to detail in all undertakings is essential.
- Superior organizational and communication skills are essential.
- Desire to succeed in a dynamic, progressive organization.
- A high level of integrity and pride in quality work is imperative.
- Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Proven technical writing skills.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills, with fluency in English.
Responsibilities:
You will demonstrate your technical knowledge in the field, and work towards implementing practical and effective solutions for clients. Your role will involve providing support on activities including, but not limited to, completing Designated Substances Surveys and Hazardous Materials assessments of existing buildings.
