POSITION DETAILS:

Current Rate of Pay: Min = $36.68/hr, Max = $42.51/hr
Employment type: Temporary Contract
Duration of employment: 12 months
Hours of work: 40 hrs/week
Work location: Restoration Services Centre
Division: Restoration and Infrastructure

EXPERIENCE

  • 2+ years experience in ecological restoration or management, forestry, nursery production or landscaping
  • 2+ years of tractor experience, including trailering

KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY – COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and Highway Traffic Act (Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7, Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration CVOR)).
  • Knowledge of and experience operating and maintaining equipment including tractors and implements, trailers, UTVs, weed trimmers, etc.
  • Provides technical expertise on natural cover restoration and management projects including restoration plan interpretation, site preparation methods, safe access, etc.
  • Sound data management skills; experience working with databases and GIS software.
  • Sound communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with the team.
  • Experience interacting and connecting with persons of various social, cultural, or economic backgrounds; at ease with a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate project status for various audiences.
  • Able to self-manage workload and prioritize tasks as an ongoing challenge in a frequently fluctuating environment.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint); advanced MS Excel capabilities for analysis, data visualization.

Responsibilities:

  • Operates and maintains equipment (tractors and implements, trailers, brush hogs, weed trimmers, etc.) and troubleshoots and problem solves equipment issues.
  • Ensures quality control measure are included into all areas of work.
  • Conducts regular site visits, including assessment of site access/conditions and initiating contact with stakeholders as required.
  • Assists with the coordination of materials, equipment and services as required.
  • Participates in daily safety meetings including tailgate meetings, hazard identification and emergency planning.
  • Ensures compliance with occupational health & safety policies and practices, and other TRCA policies, as applicable in various work environments.
  • Operates boats (8’-16’), including trailering and launching.
  • Provides technical expertise on natural cover restoration and management projects including restoration plan interpretation, site preparation methods, safe access, etc.
  • Assists with meadow/forest management implementation as required.
