Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING | NGĀ WHĀINGA MATUA

We have two positions available which provide technical assistance for all aspects of our berryfruit breeding process which includes Rubus, Vaccinium and Ribes crops.

This will include but is not limited to:

  • Making crosses, propagating plants, harvesting and evaluating fruit, running field trials and laboratory-based experiments.
  • Collecting data and providing insightful technical observations for reporting.
  • The propagation and maintenance of plant material for research and germplasm conservation.

To be successful in this role, ideally you will have:

  • A BSc, or diploma (or equivalent technical experience) in a plant science related subject.
  • A background in plant breeding and propagation will be an advantage.
  • Ability to provide expert technical assistance for research projects with a focus on plant breeding and seed and vegetative propagation, including tissue culture.
  • Insightful observational skills and excellent knowledge of plants and plant husbandry.
  • Practical experience with the collection and processing of data from laboratory experiments and field trials for contributing to client reports.
  • Knowledge of principles of trial design, sampling, data collection/collation/analysis and good laboratory practice.
  • A full driver’s licence
