Description:

The Production Engineering Team is looking for a detail-oriented and enthusiastic Technologist to support the construction of Canada ’ s New River Class Destroyers. In this role, you will review drawings and documentation provided by the design agent to ensure they meet the required quality standards and can be effectively utilized by our Production workforce in Canada. You will collaborate closely with the engineering and Production teams to maintain the design intent while facilitating the smooth flow of information to support an efficient construction process. Preferred candidates should have drafting experience, particularly in Piping, HVAC, or Joinery, within the marine or related construction industries.

  • Knowledge – education, certificates, licenses, registration, and knowledge required
  • Engineering Technologist Diploma (in related discipline) or equivalent
  • Relevant professional accreditation (i.e CET, PMP)
  • Working knowledge of standards/regulations applicable to role (LR, TC, IMO, ASME, IEEE, ASTM)
  • Understanding of scheduling, ability to adhere to strict deadlines, manage & develop schedules
  • Working knowledge of shipyard disciplines applicable to role (hull structure, ship arrangements, ship piping systems, propulsion, hvac, electrical, mechanical, producibility, manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge in 2D and 3D design principles & practices, engineering standards, projects drawings.
  • Technical Skills – required skills to apply knowledge
  • Demonstrated experience (typically 4-10 years) in ship design or construction or relevant complex industrial and manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated ability to read blueprints, navigate within a 3D model and/or simulation of the ship,develop & markup drawings, develop presentations and reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop technical reports & specifications, perform technical investigations, execute quality checks for departmental outputs, develop statement of work for subcontractors, application of contracted standards.
  • Analytical problem solving and data analysis
  • Social Process Skills – required skills for effective working relationships
  • Verbal and written communication of complex issues to internal and external stakeholders
  • Confidently engage in technical information sharing in cross-functional problem solving
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Make risk-based technical decisions
  • Manage planned and emergent work within their assigned job scope.
  • Support the needs of internal & external stakeholders.
  • Originate routine or low complexity deliverables
  • Review technical products and deliverables developed by external stakeholders
  • Author processes & procedures documenting how recurring engineering support and deliverables in their assigned discipline are created.
  • Identify and manage mitigation plans for risks associated with their engineering discipline and make risk-based technical decisions
  • Identify opportunities for Continuous Improvement within their engineering discipline.
