The role of the technologist is to organize and execute lab-based work to a high standard and good attention to detail within their relevant discipline or technology. Work is performed according to protocol in compliance with rules and procedures and the employee can identify and escalate abnormalities. The individual maintains their training and skills to effectively carry out their duties, seeks out additional opportunities to enhance their learning.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • BSc / MSC in Biotechnology or in a relevant scientific discipline
  • Some previous experience working in a laboratory environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong team player, able to work well within a team
  • Willing to take responsibility to complete task at hand, and able to adapt to a fast pace, changeable environment
  • Required: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook
  • Desirable: Application of Continuous Improvement tools and techniques such as 6S, visual management, mistake proofing and the 8 wastes

Responsibilities:

  • Delivery of work in line with expected standards (safety, on time, right first time to the appropriate degree of quality)
  • Equipment ownership where applicable
  • Adherence to good laboratory practice including cGMP where applicable
  • Operation of equipment and standard, documented processes and procedures
  • Escalating issues in a timely fashion
  • Basic data analysis and interpretation (e.g. pass/fail determination)
  • Completion of laboratory documentation
  • Reporting results to appropriate audience (e.g. presentations, data summaries, reports)
  • Completion and peer review of laboratory documentation
  • Requirement to join the out of hours call out rota to respond to alarms on cold storage units (or cell culture systems as appropriate)
