Job brief/Position Objective: Data Centre Engineer

MANDATORY SKILLSETS:

  • Education level of HBO/HTS, preferably in Computer Science or a related technical field, or possess equivalent experience
  • Proficient in English (both written and verbal) with fluency in Dutch (written and spoken).
  • Exceptional expertise in Data Centre operations

DESIRED SKILLSETS:

  • Data Centre Management Expertise: The candidate should have robust skills in Data Centre Management, backed by at

least 3 years of hands-on experience in an enterprise scale production datacentre. The ability to adhere to stringent standards in this demanding environment is crucial.

  • Proficiency in IT & Network Technologies: A solid foundation in various IT and network technologies is required. This

includes knowledge of different cable types, fibre technologies (utilized in LAN, WAN & SAN), and an understanding of hardware internals such as CPU, memory, and storage. The candidate should be adept at hardware maintenance tasks, including card swapping.

  • Experience in IT Infrastructure and Operations: A strong background in hands-on technical administration within IT

Infrastructure and Operations is essential.

  • Understanding of IT Operational Processes: The candidate should have a solid grasp of IT operational processes, including Change, Incident, Release, and Problem management. A certification in ITIL is preferred.
  • Exceptional Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are a must. The candidate should be capable of communicating confidently, effectively, and succinctly, ensuring clear understanding, and avoiding any misinterpretation.

Certifications Needed: • BVCA – (Veiligheid, Gezondheid en Milieu)

  • CDCP - Certified Data Centre Professional

Responsibilities:

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Data Centre Responsibility: Oversee all Data Centres within the Netherlands, ensuring 100% uptime for these large, production facilities that service customers and businesses.
  • Task Management: Handle tasks related to Data Centre facilities (e.g., racks, power, cooling, cabling, etc.) in collaboration with local facility organizations and vendors. This includes hardware installation, delivery, building, patching, powering on, and disposal.
  • Security: Ensure all Data Centre physical access security, operating within applicable security requirements such as IT

audits, SOx, etc.

  • Collaboration with Technology Owners: Work closely with technology owners to contribute to the design and build of

hardware infrastructure, including network CNO & CTO departments. Support the evaluation of new infrastructure and

assist in the safe and secure disposal of legacy equipment.

  • Reporting: Maintain full control of all areas within jurisdiction and report all Data Centre and Hardware activities.
  • Asset Management: Manage asset disposal within the agreed process, ensure the CMDB and asset register is fully maintained, and all equipment and cabling are easily identifiable.
  • Capacity Planning: Provide capacity planning for Data Centre facilities (space, power, etc.) and Hardware.
  • Documentation: Ensure all required documentation, including low-level design documents, connectivity or asset registers, infrastructure diagrams, presentations, etc., is in place and up to date.
  • Issue Resolution: Support the resolution of urgent issues when required.
  • Communication: Facilitate communication between all technical teams and customers, representing the team and department

both internally and externally, and acting as a single point of contact if needed.

  • Team Support: Assist the Data Centre team during busy periods, which typically involves racking, power, and patching needs, sometimes at very short notice.
  • Prioritization: Support the resolution of urgent issues on an occasional ad-hoc basis and prioritize workload accordingly.
  • DCIM Tooling Experience: Experience using DCIM tooling for documentation (Patch Manager)
