Description:
The Utah State Office of Rehabilitation (USOR) is seeking a dedicated Technology Instructor to provide adaptive technology training for adults who are blind with the goal of fostering self-sufficiency and employment. This position involves one-on-one and group training sessions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
The model applicant for this position is someone who:
- Preference: Has bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field (e.g., vocational rehabilitation, psychology, sociology, social work, Teacher of the Visually Impaired).
- Preference: Has experience in teaching adults who are blind or low vision.
- Is proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and adaptive technologies for the blind.
- Has strong organizational, communication (verbal and written), and leadership skills.
- Has the ability to assess, monitor, and evaluate needs and progress in services.
- Is enthusiastic with a positive outlook on life.
- Has the ability to deliver presentations or training using effective methods and techniques.
- Has knowledge of vocational training principles, theories, and practices.
- Has the ability to follow applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies.
Responsibilities:
The Technology Instructor will perform the following tasks:
- Provide one-on-one and group technology training, focusing on blindness-related adaptive technologies such as screen readers, keyboarding, Windows/Office products, Apple products, and smart phones.
- Offer tech support for clients, staff, and employers via one-on-one, phone, and email communication.
- Assist in the development of curriculum for group and individual training goals.
- Create and support staff with accessible document creation
- Lead group discussions to promote self-confidence, self-reliance, and positive attitudes about blindness.
- Attend staff meetings and client staffing as scheduled.
- Cross-train with other staff to ensure quality services and provide substitutions when necessary.
- Prepare monthly student reports and evaluations.
- Coordinate and participate in monthly training center activities for students.
- Conduct outreach presentations to organizations and community groups to recruit for rehabilitation programs.
- Attend state conventions of the blind.
- Help students achieve intermediate objectives and vocational goals
