JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Office of Technology Transfer within the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Technology Licensing Officer . This position will work primarily with life sciences and biomedical technologies.
This position will be located in State College, PA, adjacent to the University Park Campus and will report to the Director of the Office of Technology Management which is responsible for the management of intellectual property developed at Penn State.

Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of this position include the following:

  • Managing a substantial portfolio of intellectual property, screening invention disclosures, and assessing their commercial potential
  • Formulating patent strategies and coordinating with external patent counsel
  • Marketing of inventions
  • Negotiating and drafting intellectual property agreements including license agreements, option agreements, interinstitutional agreements, etc.
  • Communicating and coordinating frequently with other stakeholders in the Invent Penn State community
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience: This job will be filled at the Advanced or Senior Professional level, depending upon the successful candidate’s competencies, education, and experience. This position requires a Master’s degree or higher in a technical or business discipline or higher and 3+ years of related experience, or an equivalent experience for the Advanced level. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A strong technical background in life sciences, biomedical innovations, or other related fields; technology licensing experience; and working knowledge of intellectual property protection strategies is desirable.
The candidate should have excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, good negotiation skills, the ability to interpret and manage numerous complex agreements, the ability to manage and coordinate multiple and diverse projects simultaneously through to completion, be highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a team environment; and have the ability to establish priorities.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$76,700.00 - $129,500.00
