Job Description
CIMA+ has a long history of success in Eastern Canada and is made up of over 3000 employees across the country.

As a Telecom Specialist Engineer, you will be responsible for is responsible for engineering Telecommunication Networks for major utilities clients, and ensuring these systems contribute to safe and reliable operation electric systems while meeting performance requirements of system planners, regulators customers and other stakeholders. The team provides engineering studies, standards, specifications, design solutions, construction documentation, and engineering oversight. We provide technical support during procurement, construction, testing and commissioning, and provide asset lifecycle support with critical failure analysis and emergency operational support for restoring customer supply in the event of forced outages. The division is responsible for deploying and sustaining numerous regulatory bulk electric system standards, including cybersecurity standards for Industrial Control and Telecommunication systems. This is a hybrid role that is based out of our offices in Vancouver.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC)
  • 10+ years of progressive and comprehensive engineering experience in the design, engineering and implementation of telecommunications systems.
  • The ability to demonstrate in depth technical knowledge in the development and application of engineering standards, system and facility design for tele-protection, telecom transport systems, wired and wireless networks, network management systems, as well as network diagnostics, design studies, technical report writing, and the ability to undertake technical design reviews of such systems
  • Prior experience with IP/MPLS, DACS, SONET, Microwave, Site Selections, antennas and tower, grounding, and other telecom technologies
  • Excellent leadership, communications (verbal and written), technical writing, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Good understanding of project and task management processesProactive in ongoing professional and personal development activities such as self-study, attendance at technical and administrative courses and participation in technical and professional societies

  • The expected salary for this position is from $125,000 to $160,000 based on the richness and diversity of the candidate’s experience, training, skills and internal equity. The position or associated salary could vary depending on the profile of the candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • As an experienced professional engineer, engages in the engineering of electrical utility telecommunication systems and develops specialized expertise in telecom engineering, using initiative and judgement to perform tasks including developing standards, designs, analyzing and resolving challenging and unusual engineering problems with considerable independence
  • Manages medium and large sized projects and work packages, writes specifications and standards, estimates capital costs, coaches, and mentors technical staff, and provides technical and site support during the installation and commissioning of telecom and tele-protection equipment
  • Provides technical assistance and construction support in the field and undertakes field reviews as required by EGBC. Resolves site queries, attends site meetings and performs site inspections during the construction phase of projects
  • Provides work leadership to a team in a lead engineer role including reporting out on work completion of the team.
  • Provides technical direction to engineers, consultants and technical support staff, coordinates projects of medium to high complexity and plans and manages resources and develops innovative methods of design for engineering problems
  • Reviews work of the project team and of consultants and contractors to ensure accuracy, achievement of required results and adherence to accepted engineering practice
  • Prepares signed and sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and CIMA+ design practices
  • Maintains complete project documentation with respect to the design and construction, including all completion packages, records, and requirements
  • Develops and maintains effective professional relationships with internal and external colleagues to determine relative priorities, assess the impact of work on others and resolve issues of concern
  • Specialist engineers are expected to provide technical leadership in the Telecom engineering field and provide mentorship to junior engineers and EITs
  • Chairs meetings to address engineering problems, attends and addresses seminars, courses, meetings, and conferences, and prepares and delivers presentations to various audiences
