Telecom Technician
Overview of Position:
The Telecoms Technician ensures that a consistent and high quality service is provided by Speedcast in respect of the services defined in the client manpower services contract. The Telecoms Technician interacts with the client offshore management team. The Telecoms Technician provides technical services to client that achieve specific performance objectives in the areas of HSE, Service Quality, Timeliness and customer satisfaction.
What you will do:
Telecoms Technician:
- Maintenance of telecommunications equipment to ensure serviceability and available for optimum use, particularly the SECE as listed in the platform safety case performance standard.
- Carry out maintenance routines as scheduled by client’s maintenance management system to the approval of client’s technical authority.
- Review and identify potential improvements to the routine maintenance procedure and ensure that any amendments are entered into client’s maintenance management system.
- Maintain and update SAP as required.
- The elimination of Telecommunications faults as they occur.
- The installation and modification of equipment under client change control and modification policy and procedure.
- Provide first line support for PC’s, servers, printers, photocopiers and other computing related equipment.
- Ensure safety critical systems are fully operational (and backed up) at all times
- Report to platform OIM and HSE representative any abnormal occurrence or equipment failure potentially endangering the integrity of the installation or personnel.
- Amendment of system diagrams/documents as appropriate when authorised changes are carried out under the change control and modification procedures as described in the company management system.
- Ensure documentation, drawings etc are updated and maintained as per document management procedures.
- Liaise with & assist onshore Telecoms department.
- Liaise with GSOC Team Leader, Maintenance planner & other platform personnel ensuring a high standard of communication.
- Assist & supervise vendors or other third parties as required.
- Take in hand and manage the procurement and maintenance of spare parts, consumables and associated materials etc. in line with spares strategy.
- Assist other departments/personnel as required (within reasonable capabilities of the position).
- Be the main POC and supervisor for the mobilisation/demobilisation of ad hoc vendors working on the telecom infrastructure.
- Ensure work permits are completed and adhered to as per client policy and procedures.
- Preparation and submission of daily and weekly reports to Aberdeen office, indicating work carried out, status of equipment and services, usage of major spares, etc.

- Telecoms Related HNC (ONC if very experienced)
- GMDSS General Operators Certificate
- CAA Offshore Radio Operators Certificate of Competence (Restricted)
- Equivalent Military or Marine Qualifications
- Combined Offshore Survival Certificate (BOSIET)
- COMPEX Hazardous Areas
- Offshore UK Medical
- Offshore Met Observer (CAP-437)
