Job Description
Join our growing team in Grande Prairie, Alberta!
As a Communications Advisor you will help lead communications strategies and tactics related to the County’s priorities, build relationships with teams across the organization, and provide strategic communications advice to leaders across departments. Under the direction of the Director, Communications and Marketing, become an integral part of our department and we will invest in your future aspirations.
The responsibilities of this fast-paced position include responding quickly to a changing environment, developing comprehensive integrated communications plans, and supporting tactics, media relations, project management, and relationship-building. In all of this, you will exemplify the County’s vision: First in building sustainable, prosperous, and safe communities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Communications, Public Relations, or Journalism
  • Relevant experience in corporate communications, preferably in the public sector
  • Membership with International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) or Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) an asset
  • Passionate about writing engaging stories with extensive knowledge of communication practices and principles
  • Advanced computer skills, organizational and written communication skills, and the ability to learn and adapt to changing situations
  • Experience in print and digital design
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a time-efficient manner
  • Possession of a valid class 5 Alberta driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
    The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic team player with great attention to detail.
    Additional Information
    This position is temporary full-time, until July 2025.
    We’re offering a hybrid, 35-hour work week with paid or banked overtime at a 1.5x rate.
    Hourly Pay: $42.03 to $49.45.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in developing internal and external strategic communication plans and materials to support operational initiatives, municipal programs, and issues management
  • Day-to-day operational requirements include preparing communication materials and responding to issues while working with County departments to ensure accuracy and consistency of department, project, and corporate messaging
  • Writing, editing, coordinating, and managing communications associated with the development of communications plans, newsletters, news releases, advertisements, fact sheets, briefing notes, special events, and other communications
  • Working with clients, designers, printers, vendors, and marketing agencies to create effective communications and advertising products
  • Producing and posting web and social media content
  • Using social media to advance storytelling, information sharing, and external communications efforts
  • Managing media relations and potential issues, including developing proactive/reactive strategies with consistent and timely messaging
  • Providing administrative support to the Director
