Description:

Position Title: Permanent Substitute Teacher Function: Academics Title of Supervisor: Divisional Principal The primary function of The International School of Panama Teacher is to facilitate the students’ learning process and create productive environments in which students can develop skills they might need at present or in the future. This teacher provides learning opportunities for students from pre-Kinder to 5th grade. Through substitute teaching, this person supports the ISP Teaching Philosophy, school policy, regulations, objectives and goals.
Primary Tasks and Responsibilities: Follows the lesson plan left by the teacher for whom they are substituting in accordance with the school’s philosophy, goals and objectives.
In long term situations, the substitute teacher will meet with teacher teams in order to plan the learning for a class for a given amount of time.
Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
Establishes and maintains order in the classroom.
Maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment and facilities. Efficiently manages the classroom, the instructional materials and equipment therein.
Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and School Board Policies.
Other Job Responsibilities: Reports to the principal or other designee at the beginning and end of the school day.
Manages and maintains standards of students behaviors in school abiding by the behavior code of conduct.
Helps maintain general order in the hallways and school grounds, supervises the area as scheduled in the duty schedule or the classroom during rainy days; escorts students to or from special classes, from flag ceremony; to and from fire drills.
Supervises students at all times during the school day. Remains in the classroom until the scheduled special teacher arrives, arrives on time to relieve the special teacher. Releases the students at the end of the day and during recess at the assigned time.
Arrives in the assigned division/area by 7:15 a.m. daily and does not leave before 3:15pm. Request permission from the principal to leave the school grounds during working hours. Informs the principal at the earliest possible time in case of absence.
Maintains accurate records of students. Keeps daily attendance and records tardy arrivals. Documents parents meetings and conversations.
Shows professionalism in their interactions with students, colleagues and parents; in the way they dress, portrays themself and behaves during school hours.
Serves as an active participant in school professional development by maintaining awareness of key school initiatives and by participating in key meetings and development Demonstrates the drive to be motivated, to take on tasks without being asked, and to proactively seek ways to help the library and school Completes other duties assigned, extend support to administrative staff, other divisions - ISP sub v. divisional sub; classroom upkeep - bulletin boards
