Description:

The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign is part of a century old tradition to contribute towards building strong communities by helping TSA to give hope to others. The Christmas Kettle Coordinator position is a short-term contract position. The successful candidate is responsible for oversight of several Christmas Kettle locations in a given geographical zone area. Zone locations include shopping malls, grocery stores and retail outlets. The coordinator will organize, direct, and supervise the work performed by Christmas Kettle Campaign Workers. They will also ensure adequate staffing is met prior to and during each shift.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Some high school coursework or completion of high school is an asset.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • A minimum of one year of related experience or working in customer service.
  • Money handling experience is an asset.
  • Experience in office administration.
  • Experience with general office equipment; must have strong skills and experience using word processing (Microsoft WORD); spread sheet use (Microsoft EXCEL).
  • Valid Ontario Class ‘G’ Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in English is the only language requirement. Ability to speak Korean is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well in a fast-paced office setting; attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to lift/move 9 to 12 kgs (20 – 25 lbs.)

  • Strong customer service skills; enjoy liaising and working with people of all ages and abilities.
  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of donor, volunteer, and organizational information.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

INCUMBENT MAY PERFORM ALL, SOME, OR SIMILAR RANGE OF DUTIES AS BELOW:

  • Attend a day of training/orientation on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
  • Provide support in getting Kettle equipment to zone locations prior to staff and/or volunteer’s arrival at Campaign onset.
  • Ensure all Kettle donations are delivered to secure location at shift completion.
  • Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Orient and remind staff/volunteers on proper Kettle handling and duties as required.
  • Supervise, support and assign (as required) staff and/or volunteers throughout the Campaign.
  • Visit locations during shift changes and intermittently.
  • Ensure timesheets and mileage reports are submitted accurately and timely (weekly basis).
  • Remain at the Kettle location for the full shift (until relieved), ensuring security of donations received.
  • Respond to questions/queries from potential donors regarding TSA ministries and programs.
  • Promote, coordinate, and oversee the activities of Christmas Kettle Campaign Worker staff and/or volunteers.
  • Oversee the operations of the Christmas Kettle campaign including scheduling of staff and/or volunteers.
  • Participate in recruitment of Kettle worker staff and/or volunteers.
  • Manage orientation and performance management of kettle worker staff and/or volunteers.
  • Coordinate the schedule for Kettle staff and/or volunteers and respond to emergency absences, etc.
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with Kettle location partners and sponsors.
  • Coordinate the delivery and pick-up of Kettles equipment to/from sites daily, ensuring the security of donations; may deliver and pick-up in an emergency situation.
  • Host at a Kettle location as required ensuring necessary coverage for breaks, etc.
  • Ensure that Kettle locations have adequate supplies of literature etc.
  • Record statistical data and prepare weekly time sheets as required.
  • Post campaign: organize retrieval of all equipment/supplies from various Kettle locations.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
