ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Student Success Center (SSC) division at the University of South Florida (USF) is instrumental in the University’s efforts to continuously improve retention and graduation rates. The SSC provides tutoring and testing services to undergraduate and graduate students and collaborates with other student-centered units on campus, such as the Advising Center, to identify and support students in need of additional academic support. Offering a variety of academic support services, the mission of the department is to strengthen students’ ability to learn effectively and efficiently. This is accomplished through SSC best practices that are content centered and seek to understand the role of tutoring and writing support at USF and adapt to meet the diverse needs of students, faculty, and staff.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The OPS Learning and Development Facilitator (LDF) is responsible for developing and implementing a nationally certified peer tutor training. As the primary contact on behalf of the SSC, the LDF works directly with advisors, academic advocates, and other members of the care team to provide support to students at academic risk. The position also supports the Office of Undergraduate Studies and university-wide initiatives connected to Florida Board of Governors performance-based metrics on academic progress rate, transfer retention, and graduation rates. This is an on-site position with a 29-hour work week.
Additionally, the LDF works in partnership with faculty and staff to create learning experiences in support of retention and persistence efforts to include special student populations such as student athletes, veterans, residential students, first-generation, and transfer students. Assisting SSC leadership with human resources functions (time sheet processing, recruitment and retention). This position reports directly to the Director of Student Success Center on the USF St. Petersburg campus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Education, Adult Education or equivalent with one year of experience in a professional training position; or a Master’s degree in the same field. Certain grants and programs may also have specific education and/or certification requirements specific to the subject matter area of the program.

- 4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor’s degree.
- 6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master’s degree.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in education, educational leadership, or a field related to college student success.
- At least one year in college student success, specifically in college learning assistance.
- CRLA certification and/or training experience.
SPECIAL SKILLS / TRAINING:
CRLA certification. Depending on the nature of the program or department, this position may require regular travel between USF campuses and/or day and overnight travel to client locations.
Responsibilities:
- Lead instructor for all CRLA tutor training sections level 1. Develop training curricula, instructor materials, learner guides, and other materials for undergraduate and graduate student tutors.
- Conduct peer leader observations and evaluations. Define learning goals for each training initiative.
- Develop and facilitate formal and informal workshops and learning experiences for large and small group presentations for faculty and staff, USF departments and colleges, and other campus partners.
- Identify the most appropriate and cost-effective training approach, including selection of training media.
- Supervise OPS hourly tutors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
