JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Parks & Recreation Ranger will provide high quality in-person customer service and education to recreation center users while patrolling the facility. The Security Specialist will provide front line customer service to the public and enforce rules, regulations, and ordinances related to Goodyear Recreation Campus. The Security Specialist will provide support to part-time and full-time staff.
The ideal candidate will be a dedicated and highly trained security personnel with a strong commitment to safeguarding the Goodyear Recreation Center and its patrons. They must have the ability to maintain a safe and secure environment through proactive surveillance, efficient incident response, and exceptional interpersonal skills. REQUIREMENTS

  • Formal Education/Knowledge: Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with six-months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Community college, vocational, business, and technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in a related field.
  • Certifications and Other Requirements: Valid Driver’s License, CPR and First-Aid certifications.
  • Reading: Work requires the ability to read staff reports, memorandums, letters, and general correspondence.
  • Math: Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Writing: Work requires the ability to write reports, letters, registration forms and flyers, and accident and incident forms.
  • Managerial: Semi-Complex - Work requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees.
  • Policy/Decision Making: Significant - The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results. There is some opportunity for discretion when making selections among a few, easily identifiable choices. Work involving discretion is typically reviewed before finalized
  • Technical Skills: Broad Application - Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Limited analysis and independent thinking is utilized.
  • Interpersonal/Human Relations Skills: Moderate - Interactions may involve support of controversial positions or the negotiation of sensitive issues or important presentations. Contacts may also involve stressful, negative interactions requiring high levels of tact and the ability to respond to aggressive interpersonal interactions.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains effective public relations by communicating with the general public and other city employees to provide direction, information, and interpretation of rules and regulation, both orally and in writing.
  • Keeps accurate records of GRC patrol time and activities and prepares detailed reports such as daily logs, incident reports, and accident reports. Submits work orders and suggestions relevant to improving GRC planning and the quality of GRC maintenance to ensure safety and security of GRC equipment, facilities, and grounds.
  • Monitors and observes organized and unorganized events in the GRC to ensure safety and appropriateness of activities and detect potentially hazardous situations. Conducts building and equipment safety checks at the facility.
  • Anticipates and corrects problems or notifies appropriate personnel to ensure visitors safety. Radios for Police and/or Fire-Medical in emergency situations. Exercises judgment and independent action in exercising patrol functions within legal and departmental constraints.
  • Operates a cell phone, tablet and/or laptop. Utilizes departmental software to review patron history, camera footage, door security and more.
  • Walks extensively while patrolling the facility. Sets up and removes folding tables, chairs, barricades, traffic cones, or similar objects as needed.
  • Comprehends and makes inferences from written rules, regulations, ordinances, and statutes relating to municipal recreation centers in order to provide enforcement and ensure the safety and security of GRC facilities and grounds. Prioritizes work assignments and deals effectively with rules violations.
  • Follows protocol, works independently, deals effectively with the public in stressful situations requiring tact and diplomacy, reacts quickly and efficiently in emergency situations, anticipates and solve problems on a daily basis, performs outdoor duties under varying work and climatic conditions, and understands and follows oral and written instructions.
  • Will be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
