Description:
PROGRAM: PEEL CHILDREN’S RESPITE COORDINATOR & SOCIAL SKILLS GROUP
The Children’s Respite Coordinator is responsible to provide coordination of therapeutic respite to identified children diagnosed with a developmental disability and their families. Families are provided necessary weekend day respite. The Children’s Respite Coordinator will promote, recruit, coordinate, monitor and maintain Children’s Respite Services within their designated geographical or case management assignment. In collaboration with our partners, Peel Behavioural Services, the Children’s Respite Coordinator is responsible to recruit host family providers to provide necessary support to children. Peel Behavioural Services provides behavioural assessments and strategies to assist our identified clients to learn strategies and skills necessary to adapt to community life. The Children’s Respite Coordinator is responsible to facilitate and support matches between Homesharers (children) and approved Host Families and work with our partners in implementation of strategies and skills, while seeking to promote Karis Disability Services’ service principles in the lives of people supported. The Social Skills Group is for children between the ages of 10-17, with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, and runs two evening per week. The person hired will ensure service provision follows Karis Disability Services policies and procedures, MCCSS Ministry legislation and Ministry Host Family Services Directives. They work in collaboration with relevant community partners.
The Children’s Respite Coordinator for Therapeutic Respite Services, and as Program Coordinator for the Therapeutic Social Skills Group will help to build communities of belonging in accordance with the core values of Karis Disability Services; Valuing People, Fostering Belonging, Serving Others and Respecting Gifts. They respect and uphold the Values, Vision and Mission of Karis Disability Services, demonstrating the highest standards of courtesy, respect and integrity in their dealings with persons supported, other employees and both internal and external stakeholders.
Experience: Three years (two and a half years prior and six months on the job) Or have Case management experience Or Direct Support Experience, and experience working with children.
Education: College Diploma/Degree in a related field or Developmental Services and Social Work education preferred
Demands: Ability to work well under pressure both independently and as part of a team
Involves working with people who may be under significant personal
Stress or who may have challenging behaviours
Intermittent periods of considerable mental demands
Work conditions: Days, Some Evenings and Weekends
