LGC’s National Laboratories (NL) group to be based at The Surrey Research Park, Guildford (from April 2025) delivers a range of functions and services in partnership with the UK Government, business and academia. The business unit has revenues in the region of £19m and employs ~150 people. The goods-in and stores team are fundamental to the efficient running of these laboratory functions.
Job Description

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • GCSE’s or equivalent.
  • Previous stores/loading experience preferred.
  • Good communication skills and work well within a small team.
  • Ability to manage time effectively.
  • Dependable and Reliable.
  • Inventory, data entry and good computer skills are required.
  • Forklift truck license (desirable but not essential).
  • Experience in the safe handling of laboratory gases (desirable but not essential)
  • Hold dangerous goods license (desirable).

Responsibilities:

JOB PURPOSE

The job holder carries out tasks to support the effective operation of the goods in and stores functions, including but not limited to receipt of inward deliveries, safe storage of stock and onward distribution and inward collection/management of items from laboratory teams. The job holder will be required to assist with goods-out when required.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive goods and chemicals at the loading bay from suppliers or carriers.
  • Deliver goods to onsite requisitioners, ensuring that they are delivered to the correct location and the necessary paperwork is completed where appropriate.
  • Deliver clean personal protective clothing to end users and collect dirty items for laundry.
  • Preparing and goods receipting orders using the LGC purchasing software, by processing requests, supplying orders and placing these orders into the delivery area.
  • Sort and place materials on static racking and shelves, according to organizational standards.
  • Maintain inventory controls by processing stock requisitions, recording issued quantities of items onto the material requisition form and requisitioning issued stock off the system at the end of every shift.
  • Assist the Stores Manager & Quality Coordinator with stock inventory, where applicable.
  • Deliver sorted mail from the post room to mail drops throughout LGC Teddington.
  • Collect outgoing internal/external mail and deliver to the post room for internal sorting and distribution (internal mail) or processing (external mail) for dispatch using the relevant software (such as Royal Mail Click & Drop or DHL Express).
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves, the pallet area, and workstations neat and tidy. This includes general housekeeping in courtyards and gas compounds, keeping these external areas free of leaves.
  • Wear provided PPE where appropriate.
  • Undertake additional duties as determined by staff absence and annual leave.
  • Support the Facilities team ad hoc duties when required.
    Work in accordance with LGC’s materials management, safety, quality assurance, security procedures and work instructions.
