Description:
SUMMARY
Under direct supervision, is responsible for providing daily administrative and clerical support to the division; assists in general office work.
This position is Exempt from Civil Service.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate, and six (6) months of general office experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of computer and electronic data processing systems
- Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations; skill in operating personal computer, typewriter, 10-key adding machine and basic office equipment
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; ability to communicate with diverse groups of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees and the general public
- Must have and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
- Must be able to maintain an effective attendance record/pattern
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during a workweek
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
- Working conditions are inside an office environment
- Physical requirements include lifting/carrying 10-20 lbs. occasionally
- Occasionally; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computer keyboard, 10-key adding machine, and basic office equipment. Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Positions self to perform essential functions
- Subject to sitting, standing, walking, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending to perform the essential functions
Responsibilities:
- Answers telephone and routes calls to employees or takes messages
- Responds to general inquires or complaints from the general public
- Provides administrative assistance to division staff
- Prepares reports, memos and correspondence utilizing a personal computer, typewriter and/or word processor
- Receives, opens and distributes all incoming mail and prepares outgoing mail
- Copies information and distributes to appropriate location
- Maintains and inventories office supplies
- Performs other duties as required
