Working at UKCEH is rewarding. Our science makes a real difference, enabling people and the environment to prosper, and enriching society. We are the custodians of a wealth of environmental data, collected by UKCEH and its predecessors over the course of more than 60 years.
As a valued member of our team, you’ll get:

- 10% employer pension contribution
- Enhanced maternity and paternity leave (subject to qualifying requirements)
- 24 hour, 365-day access to support with physical, mental, social, health or financial issues plus access to our trained Welfare Officers
- Flexible working opportunities
..
You’ll be joining our highly valued and friendly Tender Support Team to help with day-to-day administration activities. We help secure competitive income opportunities amounting to over £30M per year!
You’ll be in direct contact with scientists across all four sites. We need your confident communication and organisational skills to build rapport across a variety of stakeholders, together with the ability to work with diligence and accuracy to meet strict deadlines.
You’ll have the opportunity to learn about our world class research and our main funder streams. You may occasionally support our Research Development and Impact department.
If you thrive on pulling information together from multiple sources, take pride in being able to communicate well in a reactive environment, and yet you can maintain the high level of accuracy and attention to detail required, we’d love to hear from you!
You’ll be joining a leading independent, not-for-profit research institute that’s committed to recruiting talented people like you, progressing your career and giving you the support you need to thrive at UKCEH.
You will provide key support within the Tender Support Team and Research Development and Impact department.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Recording information about funding opportunities and outcomes
- Maintaining company profiles within bidding portals
- Providing key information about UKCEH to support proposals
- Arranging meetings with some minute taking
- Ensuring documents and emails are filed appropriately
For the role of Tender Support Assistant, we’re looking for somebody who has:
- The capability to work with autonomy, manage and prioritise your own time, with a changing workload to meet deadlines, as well as working collaboratively in a team environment
- Skills in showing initiative to solve problems and find solutions. Knowing when to resolve issues on your own and when to escalate or seek advice
- Efficiency in service delivery: responding to requests quickly, accurately and appropriately
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams)
- Understanding of data integrity and the importance of accuracy in completing data entry tasks. Database experience preferred e.g., Microsoft Access
- Competence in document management: accurately filing documents and maintaining folders in good order
- Exceptional attention to detail: able to proofread written material to check for grammatical and spelling errors
- Experience in formatting documents to meet set requirements
We would be delighted if you also had the following skills/experience:
- Knowledge and/or interest in Environmental Science
- Administrative experience in a university, research organisation, consultancy, or similar professional services environment
- Experience/understanding of research funding, funders and the proposal/tender process
If you are shortlisted for this role, the interview process is in two stages. The first stage is a timed computer-based practical assessment (usually 30-minutes), using Microsoft Word or similar. Full guidance will be provided, the results of the practical will determine progression to a second stage 1-hour interview, preferably in-person at our Wallingford site.
If we’ve just described you, we’d love to meet. Apply now. Please send us your CV, accompanied by a covering letter which highlights any relevant skills and experience, together with what excites you most about the role and working for UKCEH.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position at this time.
