Job Summary
The Kinesiology and Public Health Department in the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking to fill one full-time, academic year, tenure track position in exercise physiology, with appointment beginning September 11, 2025. The department seeks candidates with a record of training in diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, research, and/or service. The candidate should have demonstrated experience working with Latinx/e and/or Black and/or historically underserved populations in teaching, research, and/or service.

Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; higher ranks will be considered. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

  • If appointed at the Assistant Professor rank, the anticipated hiring range is $97,788 - $107,628.
  • If appointed at the Associate Professor rank, the anticipated hiring range is $112,500 - $118,524.

In an initiative to expand its teaching and research program on Exercise Physiology within its Bachelor of Science in Public Health degree program, the Department of Kinesiology and Public Health at California Polytechnic State University invites applications from a broad spectrum of qualified individuals with a commitment to undergraduate teaching and research. The selected person will be responsible for teaching upper-division core curriculum courses in the Kinesiology Program, including Clinical Exercise Physiology, Physical Activity and Public Health, Physical Activity and Gerontology, and/or Introduction to Research Methods. The candidate will have a record of training DEI curriculum development in Clinical Exercise Physiology and/or Physical Activity and Public Health. Preferred areas of research include but are not limited to the myriad of ways that systematic forms of oppression (e.g., racism, ageism, ableism, heterosexism, etc.) intersect with promoting physical activity for improved health, role of physical activity in chronic disease prevention and treatment; physical activity and aging; physical activity and muscle growth and atrophy; physical activity and reproductive function and health; or other closely related exercise physiology research.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral degree in Kinesiology or closely related field.
  • Record of research and scholarly activities in Exercise Physiology.
  • Demonstrated evidence of promoting DEI in teaching, scholarship, and/or service as well as a dedication to the well-being and advancement of students, colleagues, and the department.
  • Evidence of experience working with African American/Black and/or Latinx/e or historically underserved populations in research, teaching, service, advising, mentoring or community engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to equitable student-centered learning and teaching.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.
  • Must provide evidence of (or potential for) high quality teaching and research with students.
  • Must provide evidence of (or potential for) scholarly productivity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with undergraduate students and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.
  • Experience and commitment to excellence in teaching kinesiology at the university level. University teaching experience using face to face, hybrid and online delivery and demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.
  • Track record of external funding support for research and creative scholarly activities
  • Experience supervising undergraduate student research.
  • Clinical Exercise Physiology certification.
