The Unit of Administrative Studies (UoAS) at the Faculty of Management and Business is the largest research unit in the field of administrative sciences in Finland. The unit works with public administrations and provides leading research on public activities, public financial management, regional development, environmental politics, and the interface between public and private organizations.

We are looking for an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Public Financial Management (tenure track level 1 - 2). The mission of Public Financial Management is to explore distinct forms of economic rationalism in the modern public sector and in the emerging contexts of hybrid governance, i.e. public-private-civil society interface. As part of UoAS, Public Financial Management combines management and governance of public sector activities with economic principles and accounting models, thus covering the finance, budgeting, decision making, control and evaluation of public sector systems.
The appointee will work at UoAS at the Faculty of Management and Business, and participate in research and teaching of public sector accounting, including financial reporting, auditing and control of public sector entities and systems. Furthermore, the selected person will contribute to the development of the Public Financial Management program as well as the Master’s program on Auditing and Evaluation at the Faculty of Management and Business, in collaboration with other disciplines.
Research-based knowledge of the design and use of public sector accounting systems in Finland and elsewhere is seen as an advantage for the prospective candidate.
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished academic who will:
- pursue and lead high-quality scientific research in Public Financial Management
- develop the field of public sector accounting in the context of Public Financial Management
- actively seek external research funding
- contribute to societal impact and international collaboration in the field
- give research-based teaching and contribute to planning and administrative tasks in the degree programme and doctoral programme in Administrative Studies, especially in Public Financial Management
