Description:

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, 74,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.
Based at our Newport site and surrounded by a small, but mighty team, the critical position of Test Manager has become available. Accountable for the delivery of Integration/Tuning and Certification/Validation tests for the X’Trapolis 2.0 project, this role ensures all activities, subject matter experts and procedures are organised and operational in the end to end testing process. Commencing at this stage of delivery will enable the successful candidate to have ownership and input over the upcoming testing plans and become familiar with the business, before we start ramping up. Reporting directly to the Train Validation Manager, this role enjoys autonomy and empowerment and will rely on strong organisational skills and an experienced operator, to take carriage of this key component of delivery.

ABOUT YOU

Operational experience in the testing process, ideally with a technical background or hands on testing experience is a fundamental component that will enable success in this role. We are looking for a strong organiser who is solutions oriented, technically minded and if you enjoy working with a close knit team, we think this might be an ideal fit.
With an experienced team surrounding you, we are able to consider applications at any stage of their testing career, but some operational experience is required.
I commit to providing an outcome to all applicants as soon as a decision is reached but please note, shortlisting is an ongoing process, so it is encouraged to submit your application early via this portal. If you require additional information, not addressed above, you can reach me on: gemma.cox@alstomgroup.com but please note, CV’s emailed directly to me will not be accepted.

Responsibilities:

  • Understanding, coordinating and leading all test related planning and activities before, during and after the tests
  • Ensure all safety requirements, rules and procedures are adhered to and all necessary reports and associated documentation is managed
  • Coordinating subject matter experts, technicians and project team members to meet time, certification and delivery requirements
  • Reporting, mitigating and managing testing related issues and matters
  • Applying operational knowledge to establish effective and efficient schedules, collaborating and negotiating with internal teams to ensure alignment
  • Pre-empt and account for risks, issues or factors that may disrupt plans and work closely with relevant teams and stakeholders to mitigate where possible
This role will be site-based at Newport. It is desirable for the successful candidate to be able to travel 2 days a week to Ballarat for test activities until the first train set arrives at Newport. Night shifts will be common to support dynamic test activities, along with alternate location starts as needed depending on the stabling location of test trains. More details will be provided as available.
