The Boeing Defense Systems Space Electronics Engineering organization in El Segundo, CA is looking for Entry Level and Associate Test Systems Design Engineers. Area of expertise will include hardware prototyping, integraton, verification and test. These positions offer unique opportunities to work in a fast-paced team on complex technical challenges, with a hands-on hardware approach, in support of satellite communications programs. Engineers will collaborate across multidisciplinary subjects including mechanical engineering, systems engineering, electrical engineering and software engineering.
These roles are unique in that they span a wide variety of hardware and software integration activities and allow engineers to design, build, develop, and test the hardware from concept to delivery.
These engineers will be working in a small team to develop special test equipment in support of flight hardware and will have an active role in working across different organizations to test and verify the first engineering prototype model for a unit as well as full flight units.
These positions allow for side by side work with experienced mentors in electrical engineering, RF, embedded software, and mechanical engineering disciplines.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Knowledge and experience in control, analog, digital, or power supply circuit design. .Experience with mechanical design.
  • Experience with electronics laboratory instrumentation to troubleshoot circuit design and hardware manufacturing errors.
  • Software/coding experience using LabView, TestStand, C/C#, Python, FPGA Verilog/VHDL, and MATLAB
  • Master’s degree preferred.

TYPICAL EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Entry Level: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Associate Level: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

(All engineers will participate and work within the below scope of work appropriate to their technical capabilities)

  • Design and develop state-of-the-art Special Test Equipment (STE) for power/digital and RF/mixed signal systems used in space-based applications. This includes defining the STE architecture and performing hands-on development.
  • Conduct detailed circuit design for both power/digital and RF/mixed signal subsystems, involving components like power supply circuits, microcontrollers, FPGAs, logic circuits, memory circuits, filters, amplifiers, and mixers.
  • Perform detailed modeling and analysis of the designed circuits and overall test system to predict their behavior and performance. Utilize simulation tools like SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, and Advanced Design System (ADS).
  • Design and conduct various testing methodologies to support designs and to gather data for technical performance measures. This could involve testing power supplies under different load conditions, testing digital circuit logic under different input conditions, and testing RF circuit performance at different frequencies. Use tools like Python, LabVIEW, TestStand, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and vector signal analyzers for testing and data collection.
  • Document designs, test procedures, and analysis results meticulously. Manage these using version control systems like SVN.
  • Provide technical support during the production and testing of space-qualified electronics. Troubleshoot any anomalies occurring during the integration and test of a test system or flight unit, as well as during subsequent delivery and system usage.
  • Make recommendations for the procurement of test equipment, ensuring the testing setup has the right tools for the job.
  • Use Python, LabView, C#, Agilent VEE, to design automated tests for spacecraft modules, slices, and unit
