Description:

We are currently searching for theater technicians for our performing arts department working with K-12 students. This is an on call position, scheduled as needed. While calls occur throughout the academic year, busiest times are early October, early December, mid-March through mid-May. There are typically no shifts in the summer.

Expected Hourly Range: $20.00 - $50.00/hour

POSITION SUMMARY

Assists with scenic construction, load in/out of equipment and sets, supervising tech students (aged 9-11) and working backstage during performances. Other duties may include general theatre work such as lighting, sound, paint, props, theatre upkeep. Optional stage management and board operator opportunities. Beginning and advanced design opportunities also available. 20+ shows and events per year. All crew assist in all areas of tech, however we are looking for crew who have at least one specialty such as scenic construction, paint, sound, lighting, stage management, costuming, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum commitment of one year, though we would prefer long term crew.
  • Experience working with children preferred. Must be comfortable working with and around young children aged 5-12 in a school environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to set up basic lighting, sound and scenery for productions
  • Must have experience in using basic scenic construction tools including saws and drills
  • Problem solving and decision making skills
  • Creativity, an artistic eye, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to help create experiences that set our theatre program apart and promote a fun work environment
  • Having a positive attitude and contributing to a teamwork-oriented environment

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicate in a professional and courteous manner
  • Work comfortably on a 12’ or 15’ ladder and on a 21’ scissor lift platform
  • Lift and carry at least 75 pounds, bend, stoop, kneel, and crawl in the course of loading in or striking shows
  • Be available (with adequate notice) for at least 70% of the general calls (Posted in September)
  • Work in a theater and workshop environment with exposure to noise, dust and electrical energy

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to communicate in effective English with staff and students
  • Hear individual, group, telephone and intercom communications, emergency signals, etc.
  • Comply with all theatre safety practices and wear appropriate protective gear as required.
  • Individual assignments may require additional specific duties.
  • Beginning and advanced design opportunities are available to interested employees.
