Description:

This post is open to both Qualified Therapeutic Radiographers or students due to qualify early 2025.
Gloucestershire Oncology Centre is a progressive Radiotherapy department with state of the art Varian machines delivering IMRT, Arcing and SABR techniques with adaptive therapy. We have a superficial and Brachytherapy unit.
The main department, of 4 Linacs, is based at Cheltenham General Hospital with a Satellite centre in Hereford, containing the 5 th machine. Applicants will be required to undertake rotations at both sites.
The department is involved in numerous National research Trials and has two research Radiographers. We have Consultant Radiographers in both Breast and Prostate Cancer. There is also Radiographer- led planning. We treat over 3000 patients/year
The department prides itself in a very high standard of patient care and is currently developing a Late Effects Service to extend this care beyond initial treatment.
This is a permanent position.
Deliver an efficient, high quality, safe service for patients by carrying out advanced radiotherapy techniques and procedures.
Communicate compassionately and effectively with patients, carers, relatives and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
Actively participate in treatment volumetric verification, according to departmental policies and procedures.
Use a range of communication and basic counselling skills to provide information and reassurance to cancer patients and their relatives in circumstances where they may be worried, distressed or confused.
Identify treatment side effects, offering reassurance and evidence-based advice and administer and supply medication under Patient Group Direction guidelines.
Work within and contribute to keeping up to date the department’s accredited Quality System.
Develop and share knowledge and experience with other practitioners, student radiographers and other trainees. Be reflective in thinking and outlook.
Participation in the rota covering the Satellite Unit.
Rotate through the different areas of radiotherapy: pre-treatment and treatment.
The Gloucestershire Oncology Centre provides Radiotherapy services and consultations to patients from Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, and Worcestershire and in some instances beyond these geographical regions.
