(“Strathcona”) is a Calgary, Alberta based oil and gas production and development company focused on maximizing oil and gas recovery from its low decline, high free cash flow oil and gas resource base. Strathcona’s operations, infrastructure and land position are focused in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.
Strathcona is always looking for people focused on growth, both personal and professional. Those who love a challenge and get excited at the prospect of collaborating with talented people to continuously improve and innovate on tasks both large and small.

Reporting to the Team Lead, Production, this role is responsible for production engineering activity for Strathcona’s Cold Lake SAGD assets. The role will work with field operations staff and the asset team to optimize the production rate, well design, reservoir efficiency, equipment longevity, and operating costs.
The initial year of the role will be based in Calgary, AB, with the opportunity for the position to transition into a rotational program. This program will involve time spent in Cold Lake, AB, with the intention of returning to Calgary after the rotation. Flexibility in location and timing may be considered based on individual circumstances.

The successful candidate will:

  • Optimize SAGD production through performance monitoring and target setting.
  • Work closely with field operations staff to trouble shoot well performance issues.
  • Monitor well pair data quality to ensure that accurate instrumentation and testing data is collected.
  • Work within multidisciplinary teams to make effective production optimization decisions.
  • Recommend new artificial lift designs and well optimization techniques.
  • Design, recommend and justify value adding workovers.

Qualification Include:

  • An Engineering degree and at least 2 years’ experience in SAGD or CSS in-situ recovery processes.
  • Ability to work independently and possess excellent team skills and thrive in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivated, strong time management, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Previous oil and gas field experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of advanced analytical tools (PI systems, Tableau) is not required, but would be highly valued.
  • Working knowledge of heavy oil treating, steam generation and water treatment process and equipment would be considered a strong asset.
  • A flexible attitude and an interest in gaining a diverse range of experience in both Calgary and Cold Lake.

Great things aren’t done by one person, they’re done by a team.
Strathcona is committed to developing a high-performance culture through collaboration, trust, and agility. We value our work, our communities, and our commitments – but most of all, we value the team of people who make what we do possible.
