Description:
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The GE Vernova Gas Power Heat Exchanger department is globally responsible for the order execution of heat exchangers being integral part of GE`s combined cycle power plant applications (i.e. Condenser, District heater, Feedwater tank with deaerator, Atmospheric drain vessel, water/water cooler) as well as for gas turbine accessories coolers.
As Heat Exchanger Thermo-Mechanical Engineer (m/f/d), you will maintain and develop HEX engineering design in-house tools. You will also be responsible for designing heat exchanger products and for the technical content of calculations for mechanical equipment sizing. You will perform thermal design and mechanical integrity assessment of the various heat exchangers, including thermal-transient lifetime analysis. You will also contribute to Design Practices for thermal and mechanical design of heat exchangers. You will be focusing on applying Finite Element Analysis methods to optimize heat exchanger design competitiveness and contribute to product cost improvement.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Skills in Stress Analysis using FEA
- Experience in mechanical calculations with experience in simulation software packages like Ansys or Abaqus
- Knowledge of Ansys Workbench and/or Ansys Mechanical ACT application programming interface is considered
- Professional experience as mechanical engineer or technical software developer
- Experience in programming or software development in C and VBA in Excel
- Good understanding of cost and performance drivers
- Technical knowledge of heat exchangers design
- Structured way of working
- Analytical skill to breaking down problems and work out solutions independently.
- Good communication skills
- Fluent in English

Responsibilities:
- Maintain HEX engineering design tools (in-house tools) and calculation templates using programming languages like, C/ C++, VBA Excel, Python
- Develop new thermal and mechanical tools to adapt to HEX Portfolio. Take ownership on new tool development by leading the tasks, associated schedule and organizing progress meetings with main stakeholders as well as organizing training to other team members on the usage.
- Interact with thermal and mechanical design engineers to implement thermohydraulic and mechanical design rules and requirements for heat exchangers in HEX tools.
- Perform strength calculation according ASME BPVC and/or using FEA methodology (e.g., thermal-transient lifetime analysis).
- Contribute to thermohydraulic and mechanical design studies during Development phase as well as during project execution phase.
- Responsible for maintenance and development for heat exchanger sizing templates.
- Contribute and maintain design practices for heat exchangers, with specific focus on heat exchanger tools.
- Be able to explain technical information to others and provide informal guidance to new team members.
- Make technical decisions within a defined framework and resolves issues based on technical knowledge and engineering judgment within the established procedures.
