Responsibilities:
Staff and Volunteer Management:
- Carry out leadership role with integrity and promote the same within staff and volunteers.
- Provide leadership to staff and volunteers so they in turn can provide direction on donation intake, inventory control, sorting practices, pricing, culling and customer service.
- Oversee procedures relating to volunteer staffing.
- Manage staff scheduling, reviewing/approving time sheets and time off requests.
- Crosstrain and work in all areas of the store as needed. Understanding the day-to-day operations of the specific areas is essential.
- Perform duties of fellow Team/Staff on planned and unplanned time off if no substitute can be scheduled.
- Ensure that all Thrift Store staff are trained and understand the opening and closing procedures.
- Oversee performance management and development of staff. Perform, at the minimum once a year, performance reviews of staff members, including setting their goals.
Store and Business Operations:
- Follow all policies and procedures of the Peace Arch Hospice Society and the Thrift Store Operating Manual.
- Manage the efficiency of the Thrift Store by monitoring workflow, ensuring appropriate staffing levels are maintained and work is allocated effectively.
- Ensure loss prevention safeguards are in place.
- In conjunction with the Assistant Manager and Store Supervisors, advance planning and implementation of store events, e.g. Customer Appreciation Day and Special Sales days.
- Manage petty cash and cash register float and ensure bank deposits and end of day reconciliation are done daily.
- Initiate and prepare Purchase Orders for approval for Thrift Store supplies and facility services as needed.
- Strive for optimum store sales to achieve revenue budget.
- Identify areas of improvement and make specific recommendations for change.
- Other duties as assigned.
Customer Service:
- Uphold all values and adhere to all policies and procedures of the Peace Arch Hospice Society and the Thrift Store Operating Manual.
- Always represent the Society in a professional and courteous manner. Provide quality service to customers, donors, and volunteers.
- Attend and participate in Society training programs and meetings as required.
- Ensure consistent, superior Customer Service and support.
Safety:
- Follow all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
- Take immediate action to address any safety concern or noncompliance of safety rules that could put an employee, volunteer, customer, donor, or the organization at risk.
