The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) is seeking a suitable internal candidate for the nomination of a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Bioactive Delivery Systems, in accordance with the regulations set for Tier 2 Canada Research Chairs. Please note: The purpose of this posting is not for attraction, but for retention, and therefore is limited to internal candidates. The successful candidate will be an excellent emerging researcher who has demonstrated research creativity and innovation, and the potential to achieve international recognition in the field of Sustainable Bioactive Delivery Systems Research within the next five to ten years.
Nominees for Tier 2 Chair positions must be emerging scholars and should not be more than 10 years from earning their highest degree. Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental, or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 Chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process (see Tier 2 Justification). BCIT recognizes the legitimate impact that leaves (e.g., parental leave, leave due to illness, community contributions) can have on a candidate’s record of research achievement. These leaves will be taken into careful consideration during the assessment process to avoid any negative impact.
The successful internal candidate will propose an original and innovative research program of high quality which would attract excellent trainees, students and future researchers.

The successful internal candidate will hold a Ph. D. degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, or a related field and take a leadership role within BCIT’s Centre for Applied Research and Innovation (CARI). Experience in food microbiology, novel food processing, Food Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry is an asset. CARI has over 3,400 square meters of lab space, 10 research labs, over $34M in laboratory equipment and 45 researchers with expertise in a wide range of areas and disciplines. For over 30 years, CARI has used the resources for research collaborations with industry, supporting companies in the production of new innovative, commercially relevant applications and prototypes.
Sustainable Bioactive delivery systems is a complex area of research that can include many areas of interest. Potential research areas could include Sustainable food systems and Food Security, characterization of bioactive plant derivatives, efficacy of bioavailability of functional foods and nutraceuticals, and waste conversion from agricultural processing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ph. D degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in food microbiology, novel food processing, Food Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or other area related to Sustainable Bioactive Delivery Systems
• Thorough knowledge of current and emerging technologies and trends and research experience in one or more subject areas related Sustainable Bioactive Delivery Systems
• Experience in the development & management of applied research projects and the ability to present research findings in reports, seminars, lectures, symposia and scientific publications
• Ability to work effectively in a collegial manner within a team environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The candidate will be able to collaborate effectively with both local and international partnerships with the academic community including BCIT and external industry associates. The successful candidate will contribute to BCIT research initiatives and contribute to interdisciplinary academic programming and delivery.
