    The Opportunity:
    The Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre is seeking an experienced Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) FLOAT for its toddler program. Preference will be given to ECAs with previous experience in Play-Based Learning and/or a Child Directed Learning program. Be a part of this dynamic school where you will have the opportunity to grow with the children. Primary responsibilities include preparing catered lunches daily, implementing a stimulating program for the children, on-going supervision of children and tending to their physical and emotional needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the catered lunch daily for the classrooms.
  • Clean and sanitize classroom toys/materials with the classroom teachers.
  • Clean and organize the main hallway/cubby/kitchen area of the Childcare Centre.
  • Ensure the kitchen is clean and maintained in good working order and report any issues to the management.
  • Check food and fridge/freezer temperature daily and complete required logs.
  • Wash and sanitize classroom lunch dishes.
  • Assist and supervise the children with the daily routines as required (meals, naps, diapering/toileting, transitions, playground and gym time, during programming time etc.).
  • Assist where needed with classroom documents (cleaning logs, attendances, etc.)
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to maintain an effective work relationship with families, colleagues and service providers to create an engaging and supportive environment for the children.
  • Communicate with educators and management regarding any areas of concern pertaining to the health and safety and wellbeing of children.
  • Get to know each child individually to instill confidence, encourage creativity and cognitive skills, master social skills and assist with implementing daily programming based on children’s needs and interests
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and be flexible.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Candidates must be able to legally work in Canada in a childcare setting
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (done within 6 months of start date with us)
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR level C
  • Up-to-date medical including Tuberculosis test and immunization history
  • Ability to communicate easily and professionally with parents and other staff
  • Current Food Handlers certificate or willing to obtain
  • Fluent in English, both oral and written
  • Able to provide references

Main Competencies:

  • Preference will be given to ECAs with previous experience in Play-Based Learning and/or Child Directed Learning program.
  • Must have experience working with children ages 18 months – 5 years
  • Experience with food prep in a childcare centre an asset
  • Knowledge of ELECT and How Does Learning Happen? is an asset.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Hourly: $17.20/hour plus Provincial Wage Enhancement Grant where eligible.

Schedule:

  • Early Childhood Assistant will be hired for a 4-hour per day/5 days per week position per contract. Daily working hours are 10:30 am – 2:30 pm.
  • Any additional hours may be required to cover ratios and will be mutually agreed upon in advance where possible.
  • Early Childhood Assistant is required to inform the Assistant Director and ECE Administrative Coordinator if they will be absent from work and in a timely manner.
  • Will be required to attend mandatory staff meetings after hours.
