EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferred Experience: Experience as a tool and die maker, apprenticeship certification, or two years as a tool room supervisor.
  • Required Experience: Five years of previous experience as a Tooling Engineer.
  • Preferred Education: Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Skills: Ability to interact with all levels of employees, customers, suppliers, sub-contractors, and engineers. Strong negotiation skills, excellent knowledge of assembly and press department equipment, and proficiency in spreadsheets, word processing, CAD, CMM, design, and databases. Good interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Sourcing and Development: Provide guidance in sourcing, designing, constructing, and launching new tools, fixtures, and equipment for both new and existing programs.
  • Problem-Solving: Assist Tool-Room personnel and vendors in resolving issues related to production processes, tool tryouts, and new program launches.
  • Project Management: Estimate, schedule, and execute engineering changes related to tooling and cost savings. Coordinate these changes with Program Management, Manufacturing, Quality, and Finance departments to ensure timely try-outs and phase-ins to meet production schedules or customer delivery dates.
  • Technical Support: Offer technical support for product development and design, utilizing technology to meet or exceed customer specifications.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on the latest tooling technologies and implement beneficial ideas. Establish superior sourcing methods to ensure capability and cost-effectiveness of tools for both prototype and production programs.
  • Collaboration: Work with Program Managers to prepare internal quotes for new/existing programs and engineering changes by coordinating with tooling and gauge suppliers.
  • Quality Assurance: Collaborate with production to implement Poka Yoke methods and work with Quality Engineers to establish characteristics and achievable tolerances for SPC.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with IATF Standards, OHSA legislative requirements, and ISO 14001 environmental guidelines. Maintain due diligence regarding environmental matters and report any non-conformances.
  • Health and Safety: Adhere to specific Health and Safety responsibilities as outlined under Safety and Environmental Responsibilities, Office and Production Employees.
