JOB SUMMARY
The Trade Compliance and Tax Analyst identifies and implements strategies to improve and streamline trade compliance and Indirect tax processes. The individual drives Canadian import and tax compliance, while ensuring adherence to appropriate regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree
- 1-3 years of relevant work experience
- Education Level: College diploma in customs, logistic or international trade business
- 1-2 year of customs industry related experience
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) is an asset
- Knowledge in provincial sales tax GST, HST, PST and QST in Canada
- CSC (Canadian Securities Course), CCS (Certified Customs Specialist) and/or CTCS (Certified Trade Compliance Specialist) certificates
- Experience in data analysis using Microsoft Excel” under the Qualification section.
- Experience using business analytical skills including facilitating requirements sessions and documenting activity workflows and business requirements
- Experience in working through details of a problem, overcoming obstacles and reaching a positive and successful solution through mathematical or systematic operations
- Experience with SAP is a preferred asset
Responsibilities:
Duty and Customs
- Execute customs compliance reviews and audits in adherence to company policies
- Support strategies to reduce annual duties and tariffs, while leading participation in programs such as CUSMA – called NAFTA before
- Responsible for filing Post Entry Adjustments, protest, and other correspondence to CBSA
- Audit, track, and trend import broker performance
- Provide assistance during on-sight comprehensive CBSA Customs audits
- Research and analyze discrepancies identified during audit process
- Classify goods for submission to the CBSA with accuracy, and within the timelines permitted
Indirect Tax
- Review and maintain the material tax code database to ensure proper tax code applied to all the SKUs in the billing system
- Cooperate with the IM team on weekly new product setup, review and approve the tax codes before uploading in SAP
- Respond to day-to-day inquiries from pricing team, territory sales reps and other departments on provincial sales tax (GST/HST/PST/QST) status
- Support Customer Service and Account Receivable on customer’s tax disputes, confirm the tax code as per territory tax rules and legislations
- Analyze sales reports, identify incorrect tax charges in different territories, update the system and advise billing team.
