Description:
The Traffic Control Person (TCP) is a vital position for MacKay Contracting Ltd. This is an important role working with the traffic control crew to ensure the safety of all stakeholders impacted by the site (crew members, motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, etc.) throughout the duration of the Project. This also leads to affirming that MacKay Contracting delivers the highest quality product and service, and our ability to exceed customers’ expectations and improve our safety profile.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- Must have valid TCP certification
- Knowledge of Worksafe BC Compliance protocols
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with clear abstract
- Demonstrates a high level of initiative and a positive attitude
- Must be able to give and follow both oral, written and hand-signal instructions
- Excellent communication and influencing skills with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
- Reliable, responsible, and dependable: MUST show up for each shift and be ready to execute traffic control plan in advance of shift start
- Able to work and troubleshoot in high-stress situations professionally, calmly and effectively
- Able to adjust actions in relation to others’ actions, and give full attention to what others are saying
- Able to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
- Physically fit and able to stand for extended periods
- Able to work in all weather conditions
- Able to lift and carry traffic control equipment when necessary, up to 23kg (50 lbs.)
- First Aid Ticket (OFA L1) is an asset
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
Responsibilities:
- Read and execute traffic control plans with proper equipment, ensuring they meet B.C. MOTI requirements
- Set up, maintain, and take down traffic control devices and signage
- Execute duties in a professional manner
- Ensure workspace is free of traffic
- Regulate traffic flow and stop traffic whenever required by the progress of work, or to keep traffic moving at reduced speeds to avoid tie-ups or delays
- Operate hand-held radios to communicate
- Communicate effectively and professionally with crew, motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and construction personnel to maintain a safe and efficient traffic flow
- Provide simple directions, explain hazards and answer questions in a professional manner
- Site maintenance and other duties as may be assigned
- Conduct hazard assessments with the team and onsite Civil/General Foreman/Superintendent
- Report unsafe work situations to the onsite Civil/General Foreman/Superintendent
- Attend daily toolbox sessions
- Daily completion and submission of daily timecards
