Herzog & de Meuron is an international architectural practice based in Basel, Switzerland. Established in 1978, the practice is led by the two founders together with the Partners and the CEO. Today, an international team of over 500 collaborators is engaged in a wide range of projects across Europe, the Americas and Asia. The main office in Basel works in tandem with studios in Berlin and Munich, Paris, London, Hong Kong, New York, and San Francisco.
For our head office in Basel, we seek a motivated Trainee to support communications projects and activities in our COM-KIT team and in our Kabinett (foundation).
We offer you a six-month traineeship in a dynamic and multicultural environment that sets a framework for your personal development.
Your tasks will include:

1) Support the kitchen projects and digital media activities of the H&dM Communications Department (60%)

  • Exhibitions, publications and displays support (image-making, drawing, 3D-Modeling, video-editing, presentations, templates, identity)
  • Working with a variety of physical, digital and hybrid content (images, video, models, drawings, text)

2) Support the Director of the Kabinett (foundation) in the operation and display of the H&dM archives at the Kabinett (40%).

  • The Kabinett is a charitable foundation established in 2015 holding the fundus archives of Herzog & de Meuron since 1978.
  • Working at Kabinett includes curatorial, logistic, and graphic support for permanent displays and temporary installations.
  • Gain experience beyond the single project and gain an in-depth insight into the history of the practice, its design strategies, working methods and theoretical background.

Your profile:

  • At least 4 semesters of architectural studies or equivalent.
  • Fluent in English and/or German; any other language is an advantage.
  • Experience in related design fields and cultural sectors (publication, exhibition, graphics, art, film, and communications)
  • Fitness for physical work in order to be able to actively carry out exhibition and archival activities.
