Description:

Criteria for Admission to NHS Talking Therapies PGDip High Intensity CBT Programme Undergraduate degree or equivalent in a discipline connected to mental health (e.g. psychology, neuroscience, or a BABCP recognised core professional qualification). Those without an undergraduate qualification but with evidence of the ability to study at third year of undergraduate degree level (level 6) will also be considered. Essential Qualified in a mental health profession (e.g.
social work, OT, MH Nurse, clinical or counselling psychologist, psychiatrist) and have at least 2 years post qualification experience. (please see Core Professions in appendix B) or visit: Core Professions (babcp.com) Desirable Candidates who do not have a core professional qualification are required to produce a complete KSA portfolio, to be submitted for assessment, at interview. Please refer to BABCP KSA Guidance for full or condensed KSA Portfolio required.Knowledge Skills and Attitudes (babcp.com) Please note that PWPs cannot be recruited to HI posts or as HI CBT trainees until 2 years post qualification. These 2 years of practice commence only at the date of confirmation of the full PWP qualification by the University, not at the end of the teaching timetable.

Most teaching will be 2 days per week in conjunction with a minimum period of high intensity CBT clinical practice per week* Essential Applicants should show evidence of values that are consistent with the NHS constitution. Essential Applicants should demonstrate evidence of interpersonal skills to engage and develop working alliances with colleagues and patients Essential Applicants should show evidence of an openness to learning new knowledge and skills Essential NB The University is unable to accept anyone on the course who does not meet the essential criteria. *Failure to uphold this standard would lead to the HI CBT course losing its accreditation and similarly impact the individual trainees.

Please note: the number of days required to meet the educational objectives and skills based competences covered during the course are only achievable if a minimum number of days occur in clinical practice, in addition to the required days spent within the university. For full time (1.0wte) trainees undertaking training within 1yr, this should equate to 4 sessions (0.4wte/2 days) weekly in order for the trainee to carry a HI caseload of around 12 clients. For part time (0.7 0.9wte) trainees undertaking training within 2yrs, this should equate to 2 3 sessions (0.2 0.3wte) weekly in order for the trainee to carry a HI caseload of around 6 - 9 clients. Successful candidates should not be undertaking any other role in service or other training whilst undertaking the course, whether they are taking the full time or part time option.

Any candidates without a BABCP recognised core profession, will need to submit their completed KSA portfolio at interview. KSA candidates successful at interview will be offered a High Intensity training post subject to KSA evidence being assessed by the KSA assessor and deemed suitable. For your information, there may be an Expert by Experience representative on the interview panel or involved in the shortlisting process. The successful candidates will be required to attend the HI Training Programme Induction Days on 2nd and 3rd December 2024. The successful candidates will join an established team working to maintain the services excellent reputation within our local B&NES catchment areas, Wiltshire, or Swindon. You will attend training with Exeter University two days a week, with some block weeks of four days of teaching each term,completing the Post Graduate Diploma in High Intensity Interventions course, with the remaining days being spent within the service carrying out client work.
You will be supported by your Clinical Supervisor, Clinical Lead and be part of a team of trained practitioners. You will have to have a real interest in working with people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties and with primary health care professionals seeking to promote psychological wellbeing and the delivery of effective interventions. You will need to have excellent communication skills and ideally have experience of working in the health or social care field in a paid or voluntary capacity.
