The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is a decentralised agency of the European Union (EU), located in Amsterdam. It began operating in 1995. It is responsible for the scientific evaluation, supervision and safety monitoring of medicines in the EU.
This traineeship opportunity is now open for applications until 30 September 2024 23:59 CET, with an intake on 1 March 2025.
About the traineeship programme
The Agency is looking for motivated, qualified recent graduates or students on an Erasmus+ or other programme or PhD students or Master’s students (who posses a previous degree), who are interested in gaining experience and contribute to the Agency’s work for every patient in Europe. The purpose of a traineeship at the Agency is to perform tasks that are predominantly in the interest of the trainee’s training and principally serve to increase the trainee’s knowledge and to gain relevant experience.
Placement description
We are looking for a trainee to join the InfoCentre (library) team within the Stakeholders and Communication Division.
Specific objectives and projects
During your traineeship you will, together with the support from colleagues from the InfoCentre, undertake a research project to explore and identify new AI-based information tools to ensure that the EMA staff can have access and analyse information from the latest scientific literature sources (mainly health-related) as easily as possible and supported by cutting-edge applications of artificial intelligence.
Learning outcomes
This traineeship provides a unique learning opportunity for an information science/librarian graduate. You will:
- Gain knowledge of innovative literature resources, information services and tools including electronic databases, online subscriptions and related management software available in the field of medicine, life sciences and regulatory science.
- Increase knowledge management skills in the field of library and information science.
- Gain experience in a customer-oriented information service within an Agency of the European Union.
- Improve soft and practical skills while gaining insights into collection management, cataloguing, conducting literature searches, performing document delivery and delivering live presentations.
